    This Will Make You Laugh

DCM forgot her check on Monday. (Ihave a $10ate charge.)
She comes to pickup in the afternoon and says I forgot your $. There's a $10 penalty?. I say yes. She says ....WELL, I could either leave the kids here and go get your $ .....orrrrrrr I could bring it tomorrow without a $10 penalty.
Inside I'm saying :::::: yeah right lady.
I say it's up to you. You can go get it now or bring it tomorrow with a $10 penalty.
She brought it the next day with the penalty.

Between me and you all I had no problem with her leaving the kids to go get it. She was an hour early for pickup. I found her approach rude and manipulative.

I agree that it was rude and manipulative. Do you like the dcm generally?

Yes I do. She tries to haggle. I try to ignore it. She has been around since before I was licensed and before I had any policies at all. I can see how it's hard to adapt, so I just tell her no every time.

I had a DCM that always tried this ::. I always had policies and I always reminded her of them . I think some people just always try to push the envelope to see if they can get away with this (this was also the mom that wanted me to watch DCB overnight and only pay for his waking hours , and didn't even ask ... she told me).

I would do the same thing that you did. Ignore the request that was against policies and leave it up to her. The only difference was that my payday is Friday and she'd come at pick-up and say "I forgot my wallet. Can I pay you Monday?" and I'd give the same response you gave. Most of the time she'd go back and get the money but once she huffed and said she'd pay on Monday. On Monday morning she came and said "Here's for the week. I owe you the late fee" and I took the money and said "Sure, okay. That's up to you but remember that DCB can't stay until I get it and the late fee will keep getting added on" She quickly pulled out the additional $30 and walked out with a "I don't know what I'm going to do for lunch now" :::: "I just ignored her and said "Okay bye!"

Ha ha ha People are funny.

People like that really irk me. Its this constant power struggle with little snippy remarks and manipulations....so rude!

I had a dad like that recently that was just a pain and I really had to get firm and downright bossy with him. He was not taking gentle reminders, written reminders, etc, etc so one evening I really gave it to him....he's been gentle as a lamb for the past few weeks LOL

            LOL!! I actually just wrote up a section in my newsletter that says;

"On a final note, there have been a few issues with timely payments and I just want to reiterate the payment policies. ALL payments are due IN FULL on Friday for the upcoming week(s).

If you forget, lose your checkbook, run out of check blanks, forget to go to the bank or transfer funds that do not post to my account by Friday afternoon, payment will be considered late and a $10 per calendar day fee will be added. I cannot waive or delete late fees. Late fees are due IN FULL before additional services are provided.

I understand that things happen in life that throw us off schedule but child care is my job and I expect a paycheck on time like anyone else. "

Sometimes I hate that I have to spell it out but I would seriously be rich if I got a dime for every time I heard one of the above excuses.

Seriously, why can't I be the one who gets the last check blank for once instead of being the next in line after you used them all?

I need to do this. I have had quite a bit of, "oh shoot, it's Monday isn't it???" Yes, yes it is.
