I found some Montessori "materials" on CL yesterday....wood lacing beads and cards and a giant Play City wood car ramp I knew was waaaaaay worth the only $15 they were asking for it....it was turning pretty cold by the time all the kids left and I hesitated emailing and having to run the half hour into a neighboring town, but holy buckets and I so glad I bit the bullet and did!!!!!!!!!!
Got there, turns out the family (three boys and obviously wealthy based on the sheer size of their home) had a garage sale the weekend before and had tons of stuff that didn't sell. I gave them the $15 for the ramp, beads and cards and then another $15 for a tote one of their sons was trying to sell of army guys, ships, humvees etc that ds was drooling over - and then they proceeded to load up the entire back end of my truck with the rest of their garage sale "leftovers" - FOR FREE!!!!!!!
I say "leftovers" because most of the toys were brand spanking new!!!!!!!!!!!
I got a huge car ramp with wind up racers, the entire set of LT instruments (drum, bells, maracas, tambourine etc), a brand new big mouse guy with removable clothing for practicing with zippers, buttons, buckles, snaps and ties, an adorable bowling set, a bunch of outdoor games including a big soccer/hockey net, a big wooden semi truck with trailer and other wooden cars to haul, a wooden street sweeper truck, one of the coolest looking wooden xylophones I've ever seen, the Melissa and Doug Pound and Roll I've wanted forever, M&D big wooden tool box full, M&D wooden puzzles, two umbrella strollers, new swings for my swing set (still in the box) and holy buckets the books....
I kept trying to give them more money but they insisted they just wanted their garage cleared out for good.
My kids were up playing with it all well past bedtime last night and the daycare kids came in this morning, saw a bunch of the new haul and it was like Christmas!!!! They didn't even say good bye to their moms, just saw and off they went LOL!!!!!!!!!
I've found great deals on CL before but never like this!!!!!!! happyface
