if your rate is about $40/day how much would you charge to extend it just 15 minutes for a family??? Someone else is still here that 15 min. so I will do it, but I had hoped to get my closing time down the half hour eventually and now that won't happen. Actually, one of the reasons I took the family was because of the slightly earlier pick up time. It is for true work reasons if that matters.
How Much For 15 Minutes??

I'd charge $5.
That's like, $20/hr so yeah. See if they take it :P
Honestly though, for me, I probably wouldn't charge....but I'm a weeny.Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!- Flag

$5/day?? normally I wouldn't charge either but I'm a little annoyed that they are changing because I was hoping to eventually get my day to end at the time they had contracted for - I only had one kid left that was beyond that time and all the new ones I've taken since have been earlier.- Flag

Unless you are ready to permanently change your business hours and risk losing the family, I would just go ahead and do the 15 minutes since you charge by the day and have not officially let parents know that the $40 per day only covers 9 hours per day. To you, this family is getting a discount. To them, it is just the current rate and they are asking for only 15 minutes extra.
I can see how to you, it seems like 30 minutes extra.
I charge by the day and my business hours end at 530. parents are welcome to use up until the last second but I never, ever extend my hours past that, even if a family had to leave over it.- Flag

no, they do know they are getting the extra 15 min. in the morning, I said I'd give it to them at my reg rate and I am still ok with that. Now they want 15 min. at the end of the day too. My rates are for hours between 7:30-4:30 (total 9 hours) so by asking for 4:45 they are going beyond. I do state "anything outside those hours will be at an additional fee" - I just haven't specified what that fee is. I am thinking $2-3/day for the 15 minutes?? When I break down my regular rate I'm being paid $1.11 for 15 minutes normally (how pathetic is that, LOL!!!)- Flag

Okay so you ARE willing to do it? and just need help on the rate? I thought you were asking "should I do it or not". I could see how this scenario is very annoying and would charge as much as possible so I guess $3 a day would do it (though I personally would not make any exceptions for any family)- Flag

Hmm - give them an inch and they'll take a mile. Next thing it will be half an hour either way. Careful!
I would take into consideration how much THEY are making for that extra half hour a day and cut it in half. Then figure from there. I'm betting you're going to be closer to that $5.00. At least double what you are currently making for any exception.
I know that something that burned my butt when I was watching a Teacher's child. She needed some extra time that day to Tutor but she paid me my regular rate when I know she was making at least $35.00 per hour for the extra time. It was a win-win - for HER.- Flag

I would probably charge $5.00. I have a girl that gets off the bus and I might have her a 1/2 hr maybe and I charge $5.00 a day. It seems a bit confusing though about your hours when you say that some are there to 4:30 and some are there until 5:00 Do they both pay the same daily rate? I just want to make sure I'm understanding it. I am open 7:30 until 5:30 and charge $35.00 for those hours. No matter if they leave at 3 or 4 or 5:30 it's all the same. I would not go over 5:30 because I'm too busy running my kids around- Flag

I think you should go back in to your PHB and define what the charge will be.
I have stated that I will charge $10.00 an hour or fraction thereof after you have exceeded your 9.5 hours of care. Or in your case 9 hours of care.
I also state that if I have to open earlier for you or stay open later for you past my normal hours of operation, there will be an additional fee of $10.00 for each. I will not open more than 15 min early and will not stay more than 15 min past closing.
I would charge an additional $7.00 a day. It's for two kids right?- Flag
