    Calling Them Out...

So, today it's supposed to be in the mid 50's and rainy here. I realize many parents weren't listening to the weather since it was 85 and sunny here yesterday, but I'm tired of running around like a chicken without a head looking for something warm for all 4 kids that forgot to dress warm. Not to mention doing a load of laundry with all four sweatshirts that night. This is a parent's job, right? So here's my note. Just bouncing it off my daycare.com friends... It's not rude, right?

    Hi Everyone,

As fall approaches there's a mixture of cool and warm weather... for the bus stop today it's going to be in the 50's and rainy and most of the kids are wearing shorts and t-shirts. They're going to freeze their tushy's off! Can you please send a sweatshirt or sweater to be kept here (it can be old, or slightly too small) -- just something to keep them warm in case the weather does a change-a-roo and it decides to cool off 40 degrees over night as it did last night?

    Thanks!

sounds good to me...I'd ad sweat pants too.

Every one of my kids has a change of clothes or two in their drawer, including a sweatshirt. I also have a few extra that were abandoned at some point.

I don't blame you one bit. It's not your job, but nice of you to try and find them sweaters.

I would just send something less personal stating that all children are required to have a sweatshirt kept at daycare for fall. Or something to the effect of dressing in layers.

its not rude at all but I would state it more professionally but that's just how I do things. I just sent out the same reminder as some mornings are cool now even though later in the day it will be in the 80's.

I agree... if you are going to say tushies, spell it with the IES instead of tushy's. But, other than that, I think it's perfectly worded. I would not be offended by that at all as a parent.

            Dear Parents,

With the weather being slightly unpredictable during this time of the year, ALL children will now be required to have a complete change of clothing to be left at daycare.

Please include long pants and a sweatshirt and/or jacket for those mornings/afternoons in which we need to head to the bus stop.

If your child does not have the appropriate clothing for the weather, you will be called and asked to pick up your child as I will not allow a child to become sick due not being dressed properly.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this.

            Sincerely,

            Daycare Provider

Just sent a modified version of this letter out in the beginning of the month.

I would not be offended at all either.

But if it were me, I'd make it simple and to the point. Like

"Parents, Just a friendly reminder that as fall approaches the weather can be warm and sunny one day and cool and rainy the next! Please bring an extra sweatshirt and pants to be kept here. Also please remember to dress your child in layers so that we can make sure they are always prepared for their day at daycare! Thank you for your cooperation!!"

I send one similar a few times a year. I remind them to make sure their change of clothes in their cubbies are weather appropriate. I also have them Layer!
In fact my notice is going out monday. I try not to send home on fridays as they forget.

                Dear Parents,

As Fall approaches, Mom nature can't decide what tempature she wants to settle on. So make sure to dress in layers. Also now is a great time to update with correct sizes of their changes of clothing in their cubbies. Think about the changing weather. A pair of shorts in case it gets hot, a pair of pants, t-shirt, and a sweatshirt. They have plenty of room in their cubbies for all of that to stay every day.
                Happy Monday...Happy Fall
