My new kiddo is 3 years old (close to 3.5) and coming from nanny care. She is not adjusting well at all and I normally have a two week trial period. I am not sure if I should just let her go or extend the time. The two weeks is up and she has progressed just the tiniest bit but still not at all close to where she needs to be to make this work long term.
Issues include:
*Does not play on her own at all. She has tried to play legos twice but hasnt done a single other thing, either indoors or out.
*Does not respond to the other kids or to me for the most part. The other kids are hurt by her behavior and its been hard to explain why this new one does not play or talk to them. My group is VERY social so this has been hard on the other kids. Does not answer questions or tell me she needs to go potty (although she is completely potty trained according to mom). she CAN talk, just chooses not to when she is given a direction or asked a question.
*Follows me around all the time unless I specifically direct her to do something else. If I am busy, I have to give her someplace to sit so I am not tripping over her 20 times while trying to get pickups done
*Barely, barely eats or drinks all day....like seriously one small nibble for the two meals and snack she is here.
*Asks the same questions over and over which is where are her parents, she wants her parents, she wants to go home.
*Drop offs are getting progressively worse. Mom had to rip DCG off her leg this morning and basically shove her in the door. Mom does keep drop offs quick and upbeat but this little girl does not want to be here and it shows.
*Nap time went to heck today....screaming/throwing/flipping out! I called her mom to let her know that if I cannot get her calmed down, then she would have to come get her. Her mom tried to talk to her on the phone and the little girl would not talk to mom.
so then I put her on a cot in the living room. This is not a long term solution, only something that I did today to let the other kids get some rest. Its not a solution because I use nap time to clean/do laundry/etc. and all that is done in the open living space upstairs so its not like its a calm area for her to actually sleep in. but least she is not screaming and running around for now. Plus in 8 weeks or so I will have my own newborn and I would like one space in the house that is not full of daycare kids so I can nurse in private and spend some time with just my own newborn. I am hoping that maybe I can get her used to the cot here and then move her back to the sleeping areas but that doesnt solve the rest of the issues. Hopefully time will solve the rest but I guess I would give till my maternity leave. After that, i dont want to keep spending a ton of time each day for one child especially one that is the oldest in the group but by far the most work during the day.
