    A Costume on a Monday...

So today my 4 year old Dcb's showed up in an incredible hulk costume from party city. According to dcd, he has been wearing this costume all day and night for 2 days. (yuck). While I really didnt care that he had it on today, I am wondering if it is setting a precedent. For example, he is able to take this one piece costume off to go potty himself, buy any of my other kiddos would need assistance, which would get old. Thoughts?

As long as they can manage it on their own, I wouldn't mind them coming in a costume. I had a little guy that came dressed as Batman for a couple of weeks once and a little girl who came dressed like a princess for what seemed like forever . Neither one created any problems either for themselves or any of the other kids.

      ditto,

as long as it does not interfere with their play time and toilet time, then I dont care what they wear.

I had a kid come dressed in costumes for months when he first started. Then it set a trend and all of the kids started to do it too.

It did end in me telling the parents that if their child could not play safely or it caused toilet issues that I could no longer allow it for everyone. It's that rule of it only takes one to ruin it for everyone else. It stopped shortly after that.

      But I still don't mind

LOL!! My DS wore a Ninja Turtles costume for weeks on end as a 3yr old....shell and all.

It was kind of weird going about my errands and such holding hands with a Ninja Turtle but had I known the next phase was a pair of googles, a snorkle, flippers and water wings, I would have appreciated the easiness of the Ninja Turtle.

I also agree with previous PP's. If he can manage the costume alone without assistance to use the restroom and it doesn't interfear with his safety and movement through out the day, I would let it slide.

        Yah for self-expression!!! happyface

Funny, I had one show up in a racing outfit today. He decided he wanted to be a racecar drive today. My only problem is it's really heavy, lined, and it's nearly 100* here today. He decided to change into his shorts by 9 because he was sweating so bad.

Now, it's backwards day and he has his shorts and shoes on backwards.

I don't have a problem with what they wear as long as they can play. I have a little girl that came in beautiful dresses just before she could walk and kept getting tangled up. I would just take the dress off and put a onesie on.

MMMMM, I'm not sure if I would allow this but I haven't run into a situation like this.

            1. I know everyone would want to wear costumes-creating havoc for parents in the morning.

            2. Someone wouldnt want it touched/looked at/etc.

            3. It would get torn/dirty/wrecked and melt downs would begin.

            4. It would get to hot/cold and we change after lunch anyway so wouldn't be wearing it home. Also, what ever they wear I thow in the laundry to wash and put back in cubbie for later in the week.

So after #4, no I wouldn't let it as I don't want a fit thrown when they have to take it off and it needs to go into the cubbie for later in the week.

My daughter has been wearing butterfly wings on and off for a year now. It was a daycare toy, but she became so attached to it that I let it become hers (especially since nobody cares about them except for her). She becomes new things based on what interests her. Currently she is a "spider bat," but has been a bird, butterfly, dragon fly, bee, helicopter, vampire, preying mantis, etc. I do have her take it off to go potty, sleep, and go somewhere in the car. However, she does at least take it with her to do these activities.

When he was younger, my son wore a Spiderman costume every single day for almost a full year. I hand washed it every night so that it'd be dry for him in the morning. He eventually lost interest and stopped on his own, and it didn't hurt anyone. The funniest thing about it? At Halloween, he wanted to be..... Batman.

While I agree with the self expression aspect I wonder where this would lead the other kids. Nobody has tried it at my house so I guess I don't know where I would go with it if someone actually showed up here full dress ups.

I'd let my own child do it. And I wouldn't care if a child was doing it at home, the grocery store, in the car.... basically anywhere but my house. I can just see it causing unessecary drama... and some parent/child taking it WAY too far.
