    Pillow Pet Issues

My ds has a pillow pet he got from gma 2 years ago. We have washed it alot and its flat, and rather unattractive. I want to toss it, but my son loves it. My dh thinks santa should get him a new pillow pet, but then what do we do with old icky? Im not big on tossing old and moving on, I try to teach my son to be purposeful with his items but this is a little different. Its flat and prob pretty gross. Ideas?

Also, with your own kids, when do you allow blankets and pillows? Its cold here fall and winter and dh and I disagree about wtd with dd. Help.

Can you use a seam ripper to open a small hole and restuff it? That is what I did. I cost $3 and took 10 minutes. I yanked out the yucky old stuffing, washed the "skin" and restuffed with new and it looks great!

My grandson has the doggie ones - 3 big, 2 med, 3 small and 2 minis. Plus the blanket, etc.

I would carefully open a seam and add some stuffing to it.

I try to keep the pillows and blankets on the sofa, off the floor.

Thanks for the restuffing ideas ladies. I think we will be stuck with him for a long time. My son is a lover so anything he deems as a "pet/lovie" is real in his mind and should be treated as a member of high society ::.

So, Now my other question.... I guess I wasnt too clear.

My dd is going to turn 1. DH thinks I should toss blanket in bed and pillow on her big bday and thinks this should be part of the ritual of turning one. We live in a cold climate area and my DH isnt willing to crank heat just b/c baby- well toddler technically-doesnt have a blanket. With all my dck I have not allowed blanket until one per sids recommendations and none of my dck have pillows here. But daycare regs are not what we "live" by for our family so here is where I am wondering your thoughts. What are your thoughts on this? Should I give her a pillow or wait until she "needs" one. And what about the blanket? She can already walk so developmentally there is no risk of not being able to lift her head.

I added a blanket for both my kids before a year old. I waited on the pillow until about 18-20 months.

Mine had blankets from birth. (but they were also tummy sleepers) They got a pillow when they graduated to a big girl bed.

I would restuff pillow pet, not replace. If like my kids the replacement is never as good as the original.

I only gave my kids pillows once they were in a bed - I don't like them in a crib at all. Too much leverage to step on for one reason. I am ok with adding a blanket for over a year old (assuming on track developmentally - standing, walking, etc.).

I still used sleepsacks at 1, only because my kids move around so much while sleeping that a blanket wouldn't stay on.
