    Wow! This Is Why I Can't Get DCK!

    I just saw an ad for child care on my facebook group. She is charging $15/day for infants and $10/day for older children. WOW! and her ad says she has children that are full time/part time all ages all hours. She has a 4mnth old dd and she will work with people on payments

    Wow. How can you even grow a busines making that much? I mean, I guess if you had 10 kids, but still. It aggravates me because my rates area resonable and about 90% of tuition goes back into my program. Ok, I am still in the red but it kills me that people are willing to work for peanuts and parents are willing to pay that! I can't even secure 3 full time children at REASONABLE wages. I charge below some a little more than others and a little less than a daycare center. So really. Why can't I get children?

    Okay, vent over!!!! Thank you

    its frustrating for sure. I would imagine that this is a new provider that is just trying to get someone in the door or a provider that offers nothing but tv time.

      It IS frustrating! It is hard to compete when ppl are charging so low. Many people in my area just don't want to pay for high quality care. It's sad... really really sad...

        the familes that would take their children to her you likely would not want. It is sad there are people that have to work and she is all they can afford.

        It sounds funny but you may get more clients if you raise your rates. If you are below the market average people think you must offer substandard care.
        It:: will wait

          Even if she did have 10 children, she'd only made $100 a day!

          There's really no need of her even bothering. She's only going to wreck herself and put other people out of business.

            I actually lowered my rates because I wasn't getting ANY enrollments at all. I would tell them my rate and they would thank me and hang up. That was it. They woudn't even interview. So once I lowered them by $5/day I was able to get 3 part timers. Two of which start tomorrow. I probably will end up raising my rates next year, but for now, I'm pretty on par with my area. Like I said, I'm not the cheapes or the most expensive. The most expensive seem to be the FCC providers in my area (they are the military providers who get licensed by the state and are mandated by the base as well). But I can see them charging so much because there regulations are crazy! I was going to do that but then decided not to...

            I could try raising them back up again, but I'm not sure it will really help, kwim?

              Nickel, I'm currently a CDH provider for the Navy. Many years ago I was also a FCC provider. I would never do child care any other way! You are well compensated for having a lower ratio of only 6 children. There are also many bonus opprtunities such as being an infant only home or 24-7 home. I am considered a 24-7 home because I have one 2 year old that needs care one day a week till 7 pm. Because of this need I get paid 245.00 per week for one child (he averages only 35 hours of care per week). Totally worth it in my opinion! Plus you don' t have to worry about all that advertising. The military finds kids for your program. I was full with in 6 weeks of starting. I would encourage you to look into it.

                The fcc here is diff. You set your own rates, u can live off base and the fcc doesny pay you at all. I am a legal daycare through the state and i have a low ratio. Im just not fcc.
