    Food Lady Astonished

So, I finally had a food inspection! I was waiting for one so that I could get someone to see that the kids aren't eating.

    She was astonished!

    The meal was:

    Chili-1/4 cup?
4 little things of broccolli (4 bites worth)
    1/4 cup blueberries
    Milk

I had more of everything also, just in case!

1-Ate broccolli, blueberries, drank their milk

    2-Ate Chili, wouldn't drink milk

    3-Ate chili, drank milk

She was pretty much at a lose of what to do. I let her know about not serving morning snack to see if that would help. She said alot of providers do that but the kids will eat lunch then. Mine also have pretty much quit eating afternoon snack also! Then they don't eat till dinner (when ever that is)

One child eats-mac n chees, ravioli's, things like that for breakfast before coming here. The food lady was flaburgasted by that.

Also, for the child who only drinks whole milk, she suggested serving soy. I'm not going to start buying that for just one child so I guess they won't drink milk while here.

So I'll just keep serving and throwing away!

I have the same thing here

I have one who looks at his plate and says he isn't eating it, no matter what it is. Then he immediately asks for his milk. I would rather the kids not fill up on milk. This is even during snack time. He told me today "I am NOT eating apples." Well then the other dcks won't eat their apples either.

He also chooses not to eat breakfast but a little while later he is asking for lunch.

The kicker to this dcb is he always tells me that when his dad gets here he has a drink and snack in the car waiting for him

Thanks for the help. I am at a loss for throwing out food.

I'm glad you finally got someone to see what's going on there!

So you know it's okay now to just put tiny amounts on the plate, as long as you have reserves, right? She verified that?

At least that way, you're able to save and freeze.

Did you ask her about claiming pm snack as dinner? If you could do that, I'd save the leftovers for lunch each day and offer them again at snack. If not, just serve some 2 components, freeze the rest.

Your kiddos need to see some of the same foods over and over for a while until get it.

Also, have you tried having them help make the food, or made some "fun" meals like make-your-own pizzas, etc? Maybe you could do a whole nutrition unit. Hang up the pyramid and make games out of figuring out what part each food on their plate is, etc. Read Green-eggs-and-Ham..and then quote it in a silly voice (just like you read it) when someone says "I don't like...."

"I do SO Like green eggs and ham...Thank you, thank you, Sam-I-Am!" I do so like ***x...thank you thank you...Miss CK"

Ok...I just read your other post. Was the food lady there during the meal? It looks like she came during nap, so she missed it. That's not really helpful, because she didn't see how the kids acted at mealtime. THAT would have been helpful.

Next time she shows up at the beginning of nap, show her where you paperwork is, tell her to sit HERE>, and take care of the kiddos FIRST. You can't divide your attention during a transition like that.

We can't serve dinner till after 5 or 6 so that won't work for me.

I've done the little pizza's and having them help. They loved helping-they wouldn't eat them though!

I serve alot of the same foods over and over and over and over and they still won't eat it.

So, I'm done worrying-. Most kids will eat fruit and some veggies-2 of mine won't touch it with a 10 foot pole. You just would think, when they are served it day after day, 3x a day, 5 days a week they would start eating it.

I may just have them start bringing their own food and then send the food home they don't eat so the parents can see this.

Just an idea that may help. Try cutting it up differently. Peal an apple and chop it, give them yoghurt to dip it in. Dip makes fruits and veggies awesome. Ranch, yoghurt, ketchup, etc... Another idea is blend the veggies into your foods, soup is a good one for that, or a smoothie.

Sometimes you just end up with kids that don't eat much. Don't worry about it, mention it to the parents and let the parents bring it up with their doctors if you have a big concern. If you bring it up to the parents, then they can look out for it at home. Might just be that they eat heavy meals at home and are not hungry when in your care. It is hard to see when you know good food and you serve good food.

            Best-
