Those With FB Pages Just for the Daycare

I'm thinking about starting a facebook page to list daily menus and activities so I can do away with my daily sheets. All my parents are on FB so this should be an easy transition for them.

For those that have a specific facebook page how did you open it? As a group, individual, etc.? Just trying to find the easiest way to get it going.

I'm also not sure if I want it to be public or just invite parents and have it be a little more private. What does everyone else do?

Mine is an individual account and everything is private. I even made it where the friend list is private and can only be seen by me.

Mine is a "group". Only those that are approved by me can join the group. I use it mainly to update things and post pictures. Everything is private. The parents LOVE it!

I have both - one public business type page that anyone can "like" - this is to get my daycare name/website out there. The updates are general - about openings, etc. It includes pics of the daycare space and some back of the head shots just to show some things we are doing. No names of kids, no faces.

My other page is a personal page that only current families are on. When they leave they are unfriended on that page. Its set to all the highest privacy settings although I did just open up tagging because parents asked for it. They all sign a release for using their kids pics - I never post their names w/pics though. Its a little trickier to get a name to work for that type of page, I had to use some hyphens, etc. because it will detect that its not a "real" person's name.

I was going to just do a group page instead of the personal page but I think there was some reason the personal page was a better idea - either because of how I could add people or the privacy settings or something. Don't remember what it was but I love having the page instead of just the group. I can also post on the parents pages as my daycare name and although others can't friend that page it does get my name out there more.

Mine is listed as a "person" so I can control the privacy settings and photo albumns. It is all set to private, so I have to look for the parents to "friend" them, and they have to accept to be able to view posts and photos.

As a lot of you know I did mine public as a business. I wanted other providers to be able to look at our lunches and what we do as well as my parents and their family members. I do not post pics of the kids. Just what we are going. (Ok some arms and legs ) My parents love it. A lot of you liked me... do you like it? Is it helpful to you? I considered doing a blog but, this was really easy!

My Facebook page is completely public and I post pictures of the kids. The parents signed a form to allow me to do this. I only change the names of the kids when referring to them: example David is McGyver, Chelsea is BadaBing.

I find that the relatives of the daycare children have 'liked' the page and comment often on the pictures and videos that I post of the kids. Grandma's that are far away really love it.... and so do the parents.

I opened a separate account. I wanted a place to post photos and liked FB's set up for albums. I have the account as private as possible but I do allow clients and their families access. Relatives from out of town love being able to see their grandchild/niece/nephew and how we spend our days. I've posted my policies but I don't post a menu. I'm thinking I may start this fall, though. A cclient and their family is removed from the group after pick up on the child's last day of care.
Doing what I love and loving what I do.

I'm wondering if you can change the "type" of page after you make it? I just made one last week as a local business & then I realized it wasn't exactly what I wanted.

One thing I do NOT want is for parents to have access to my PERSONAL facebook page. No, I don't put anything on there I wouldn't want them to see, but I like to have business and personal lives separate. I don't really want them knowing when and where I'm going on a weekend or evening, or what political candidate I support, etc., etc.

So far I don't have a business FB page, but I'm thinking if I did, my advice would be to NOT have your personal page and your business page be "friends". And also use a different email address for each of them. As long as your personal page's settings are all set to private, they won't be able to track it down through the business page, as long as you don't "friend" yourself.

                      Just my thoughts.

Mine is a public business page. I have signed releases from the parents and photos of all the children are on there. I have gotten several clients who know some of the families in my care and kept seeing photos and thought it was a nice place.

Thanks. I think my parents enjoy seeing their kidlets' food. There is a difference in saying this is what I am serving and for them to actually see a plate. I do invite parents to eat with us when they can. Even if it is to sit with a cup of coffee at breakfast or glass of ice tea while they are finishing up their dinner or snack. It is still that sit down as a family talking time that I think kids are missing these days!
