Should I Drop a Baby Because of it's Crying?

Well I want to say I am going to be cutting back on the number of kids(thanks to your alls advice). Gave notice to my oldest and her last day is this Friday. Have one more to cut in the next 6 weeks. That will give me the ability to drop my license and not have to deal with the food program. Two BIG stressors(since I have the licensing Nazi).

    So down to 3 kids.

The 4 I have left now are 7m,9.5m, 13m, 15m. All have been with me since they were 6 weeks old. All acclimated and doing well. Problem is there is one that has the most annoying cry. Even my assistant agrees.

It is the type of cry that even if it is for a few seconds it sends your blood pressure sky rocketing and turns my stomach. I am thinking of dropping him because I am trying to reduce stress and his cry drives me, my assistant, and even the other kids crazy. We all hate it. He is a good baby but all babies cry at some point.

Have you all cut a kid just for that? How do you decide or prioritize which ones to cut. I am agonizing over this decision. I am close with the parents and they are great, pay on time, show up on time, etc. I have a great group.

Any advice is appreciated. I know this is for the best and it is time to take care of my health and my family. Just doesn't make it any easier.
    Thanks

Honestly, I would try to make it work. If ultimately you feel as though you absolutely can't then I would term.

I would term. I have had children like that before and it upsets the whole group. Let the child go, have less children and get rid of as much stress as you can. This is your life so make it as good as possible.

Each child's cry is different and some push our buttons more than others. Only you can decide if "terminating" is the correct choice. The one child I did terminate for "crying" never stopped crying. It affected my entire day....I dreaded when her parents drove up every morning....I was ill all the time. The Monday morning after termination, I was happy to go to work again. Sure, I was a nervous wreck during the meeting with parents expressing my concerns and giving them names for alternate child care, but I grew up in the process. We do have to take care of ourselves. Good luck!

i have had to do the same thing....I was downsizing and the one that got cut was slowly based on how annoying her cry was. She was a nice a little girl, great parents, etc, etc....but the final factor came down to exactly as you said.....her cry was stressful to me, even though it wasnt like it was all day every day.

I did not tell her mom that was the final deciding factor. I WAS downsizing, so I let her know that that was the reason I had to make the decision.

No matter what you decide, it will be hard to give that notice but you have to do what is best for your sanity.

You need to term one, right? I would choose the cryer.

Thanks guys. I love this site it is so nice to talk to people who have to deal with the same problems. He woke up crying today and set off two other babies and the crying was terribly loud. Took 45 minutes to calm them all down.

A crying infant can really effect the over all mood of the dc, and it can really cause stress for the provider. I say life is to short, I would term. You will be so glad you did. The times thtaI have had to term a child, I always put myself through the ringer about it but after there gone its like breathing a sigh of relief.

Yes. If the child is making your job more stressful, and also upsets the other children, then I would. Your job should be fun, and the other children should be able to enjoy their time there. I have had to do the same thing in the past, and believe me, the days are so much better without the extra stress.

45 minutes of a screamer is more like 3 hours of real time.

Well almost lost it today. Have all 4 of them teething and so they were all crying basically all day. So ready to get out of this business. Plus the really loud crying baby thrown in there. Yikes how do we do this without ending up in the psych ward
