Local Provider Applied for my listed Assistant Job

I posted a job for an assistant for just a few hours each day. A seasoned provider in town replied saying she closed her daycare, missed it and was interested in the job.
I don't know why she closed, but I checked and she did. No complaints were listed. She might have just retired.
On one hand I am so tempted to call her because I need someone asap and she is already certified with our state, obviously, and our state requires a 90-day background check in order to approve subs/assistants. Plus she knows what she is doing and ran a successful daycare for 20 years.
On the other hand I'm worried that she will be so critical of me and will nit pick about things. Or if she doesn't like something, what if she calls the state on me instead of talking to me?? (I'm paranoid about the state because of what happened a few weeks ago.)

I sometimes look at the cl ads for assistants and dream about quitting and taking one...quitting my own and just being the "employee"and leaving all of the stress to the owner. Maybe that's what she's looking for? You could interview and see what your gut tells you, she might just be the perfect one!

Do you know her? I'd interview her and get a vibe before you make a decision. If you had someone like her you would feel more comfortable when you weren't in the room or even if you needed to leave the kids in her care it would be an option.

Don't assume. Give her the benefit of the doubt.
If I were you I would have called the second she applied.

The worst that happens is that you don't hire her.

I did call! LOL, but the number I had was out of service and I can't see the number she posted on care.com unless I do the $40 upgrade. I guess I will be doing that!

My friend's mom had a daycare/preschool for 30 years and when she closed it she found she missed the kids so much she went to work for someone else part time a few days a week. She doesn't need to work but she wants to. It may be the same sort of thing.
