Stay positive. you cant let small things rattle you....there is a lot more to come with doing home daycare. Not trying to scare you but like Blackcat said, you learn from each experience and keep on going. you cant let your confidence be shaken when parents are flaky. there will always be parents out there like this. Even the providers here that have been doing this for 15 or 20 years still run into parents that do random and thoughtless things....its not personal

I've had no call no shows before. When they call me a second time trying to set up an appointment I tell them that I no longer consider those who set up no call no shows and thank them for their consideration.

Thank you all I am patiently waiting until about 4:30 to call & verify that these 2 girls are still coming. I'm going to let them know that I'm missing my son's football practice for this interview, so they had better show up. I'm not getting the paperwork ready or cleaning my house until I know for sure. I wasted too much time this weekend doing that stuff for people who never showed!

When parents call me and ask about "babysitting", I tell them that I am a child care provider, not a babysitter....I don't like that either. I mean...I really cant' remember the last time I "sat" on a baby.

Ok, this girl must be JOKING

I called her at 3 & left a polite message asking her to please let me know if she was still planning on coming at 6 tonight, I explained that my son has football practice at 6 & I'd like to know by 5:30 if she was coming for the interview or not. She called me back at 4 saying yeah, let's reschedule, I don't want you to miss your son's football practice. I explained he has practice EVERY day from 6-8 & it's totally not a problem for my husband to take him, I'm just trying to find out ahead of time if she's going to show up or if I am able to join my husband at practice. She says, "What day works best for you?" and I'm like, Uhhh...today?? I told her it was still fine to come today (or any day) at 6...I JUST NEED TO KNOW WHICH DAY!

Then she tells me that the friend that was supposed to come with her today doesn't have a day off until Thursday, so they could come Thursday & I could meet her too. THAT'S THE SAME THING SHE TOLD ME LAST FRIDAY WHEN SHE DIDN'T SHOW UP & I HAD TO CALL HER! ONE OF THE REASONS WE RESCHEDULED FOR TODAY WAS SO THAT THE FRIEND COULD COME! AAAAARRRGGGHHH!!

Anyway, I told her that I had 2 no-shows in 2 days & I was pretty upset by that because my own family needs me & I have other things to do...that's why it's so important to make an appointment & stick to it. (I said it in the nicest way possible) Then I had a daycare dad show up at this time to pick up his daughter so I told her I had to go & I asked if she wanted to reschedule. She just said, "Yeah." ....silence..... I said Ummm, ok, well...do you want to tell me now or do you want to call me back later???? (Hello?? Are you on planet earth??) She said she would call me back. Needless to say, she hasn't.

Seriously?? Do you need the dang childcare or do you not?!?
              I give up.

Recently I had two no show/no calls on the SAME DAY! Needless to say I know exactly how you are feeling. But don't give up! Someone who can't even show or call to reschedule is not going to be a family you want to work with. Within a week I got a call from a great family that signed up and are working out well.
