    Children Mimicing Speech

I have a child in care who is getting help with speech but there are very noticeable issue with it.

I have other children that have decided to start speaking like the child does. These are children that are speaking but still learning to speak. One example is water-they are all now saying wawa. There are some other words to but I'm more concerned with them all speaking like this child and parents telling them not to talk baby talk when they really aren't. They are just speaking what they hear another child doing.

It's a phase for the ones that don't have the speech issue and they should stop it given time, exposure to the proper pronunciation, and with very little attention given to their mispronunciation. If they say "wawa" you say, "You want water? Okay, here's some water," etc. Don't punish, dont' call attention to it, just make sure you're repeating the correct way.
Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

      Yikes!

My own child starting doing this and I was concerned. DCB was severe speech delay (7 yrs old) and my child is 3. He now says "fwoken" instead of broken all the time, even though he had perfect speech prior to this kid coming. He does other ones too but this is one I noticed the most. I actually got rid of the kid for other reasons, Ill let you know IF my own goes back to the way he used to talk. I HOPE!
