    NAFCC Accredited

    Has anyone here been through the process?

    I would love some insight. I was accredited by the City of Madison years ago, and it was a pretty good process. Our state "fast-tracks" accredited providers in the Youngstar program.

    If one isn't accredited, then you can have a Youngstar observation, but they are still working out the bugs and are currently using FCCERS as the assessment tool, along with a hob-gob of other tools. NAFCC accreditation has been around a long time, so I'm thinking they worked out the bugs. I know it's expensive, but our affiliate has some scholarships to help cover the cost, so it might be worth it....

    I just for my accreditation certificate in the mail a couple of weeks ago. The process was actually more nerve wracking for me than the observation visit. I am not a very patient person and it just seemed to take forever! I am a military provider so I only paid a small portion of the fee. I do not think I would have been able to afford it with out the Air Force assisting with it.
    I do think it was worth it though. It sets me apart from the other providers in my area. I will say that many of the NAFCC standards are word for word the same standards that we have for being a military provider. That made the the process much easier for me because I have to meet those standards on a daily basis anyway.

    If you have any more specific questions, feel free to ask and I'll see if I can.

      I noticed that a lot of the standards are now part of our licensing standards. I was a provider for almost 10 years, then took a 10 year break. When I came back into this last year, I noticed a LOT more licensing standards. 764 or something like that!

      If I can get a scholarship, I might just go for it. When you renew annually, do you have another observation each time?

        I earned mine back when our state had money so I did not have to pay for it and even got lots of perks along the way for completing each step. I mean lots. like a new childcare fridge and a super changing table with steps.

        I did not have the money to renew 3 years later.

        I do think the self observations improved my program.
        It:: will wait

          I am accredited with NAFCC and just finished up with my renewal. It is very expensive, but I got a scholarship. Otherwise I would not go through it. It's nice to be able to add it to your resume...but other than that....I don't see the benefits. The paperwork is a pain and just about the time you get everything together, something expires and you have to do it over. As far as the observation goes...that's the easy part.

            You do not go through an observation when you do your renewal.
