    Another One Of These

Hey, so I have pretty much finished creating my website and am wondering if any of you could give me input on it? What do you like, what needs to change? What would turn you off as a parent?

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time for this!!

PS. We are moving into the house that I'll be working from next week. I will be able to have a separate basement and I'll add pictures of my set up as soon as it's ready.

However, I will not be responsible of asking your child/ren if they have homework

The red part of the sentence doesn't make sense.
      ***********************************************
I do ask that the potty training start at home, though, as I will only be a supplementary help to what you are doing at home.

I don't think the word "though" needs to be there. If you do keep it you will need to get rid of the comma
      ******************************************************

I have experience with all the different cloth diaper systems and will gladly accomodate to your diapering needs.

I think you should say "....accomodate your child's diapering needs"....just a suggestion as it reads funny to me without the word "child's"

      *********************************************************
Mostly, though, our schedule varies because I believe in spontaneous fun with the children!

You have too many commas here....or eliminate the word "though" all together.
      *********************************************************
***x's Family Dayhome is open Monday to Friday, from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm.

No comma needed at all here
      *********************************************************

To ensure there is a good match between caregiver, child, and parent there is a 2 week's probationary period after the contracted start date

Scratches, cuts, and other minor injuries will be treated with first aid

No comma is necessary after the word "and"
      **********************************************************

I answered in bold above. Otherwise, I think your site looks great! I love the crayon banner on top! VERY cute! HTH

Yikes. Seems I'm a bit fond of commas, huh? :P

        Thank you so much!

Well, commas are hard to navigate. The ones you have aren't necesarily wrong just that they can be used after the word "and" when you have an extensive list of things so you don't have words that people think go together like 'macaroni and cheese' when you actually mean macaroni AND cheese as two separate entities....does that make sense?

Using a comma between all the items in a series, including the last two, avoids the above problem. This last comma—the one between the word "and" and the preceding word—is often called the serial comma or the Oxford comma. I guess I consider web-sites today's version of newsprint and you will rarely see a serial comma used in newpaper/print type writing.

Over use of commas is the biggest grammatical error almost everyone makes so don't feel badly....I took a TON of English courses about proper editing in college and can't help but notice them when I read now.

Actually, the use of a comma after "and" is correct, depending on the type of writing. Sorry, former English teacher. OP, I'm one who uses transition words too ("though"), so the words wouldn't deter me.

Yep...I explained how it wasn't necessarily wrong but not always needed and is okay both ways....like you said, depending on the type of writing. (See second post I made )

Personally, I always choose to go wtihout them (unless I have a lot of things listed) as I feel it makes the text appear cluttered.

I think your website is great! I have a question.... Your part-time rate is higher per day than the full-time rate. Is that the norm? This is not a criticism, just wondering.
By the way, I charge the same for full time and part time for the week.

I love love love the drop down menus on your tabs. I so wish I could do that with my template! I didn't read everything, but I do like the look and feel of your site

I thought charging more for part time was the norm? My rates translate to these weekly rates:
                    $175 for full time
$120 for part time (calculated my daily rate for three days, and that will be the flat rate for my part time. If I enroll children who need care for less than 3 days and they don't want to pay this rate, they'd have to be drop in).
$100 for before and after school

Does that sound right? Or am I doing my rates all wrong?

I just wanted to take a second to say that I clicked through your website and it looks great! It is inviting and fun, while still remaining professional.

One thing you might add (eventually) is a space for forms parents might want to print out and fill out from their home. Not all forms are applicable to every situation, but maybe you would have a policy form they have to sign. That could be available printed out at your dayhome and also available online. You could do the same thing with other forms you might want to have available- permission slips, newsletters, vacation requests, medication releases, etc. (I admit I don't know much about in-home daycare and maybe I'm totally off-base and you don't need any, so just a thought! I see that you have a Parent Handbook that they sign- maybe you could have a PDF file of this on your site.)

Pictures of your new dayhome, such as the rooms free of children but showing all of the toys, centers, etc. you have available would be nice to see. The pictures you have already are great!

                      *One more grammar nitpick:

I make all meals and snacks myself, using the least processed foods as possible.

                      I would change this to:

I make all meals and snacks myself, using the least processed foods possible.

                      OR

I make all meals and snacks myself, using as few processed foods as possible.
