I want to change my policy and contract from jan 2 to sept when school starts. And run a summer/ school year program. This is my first year. Just getting my feet wet. I also need to change my rate for a family who I had been charging less due to family issues. I hope to do that when one enters school. Any advice would be helpful.

I would just send out a letter to the families about 2 weeks before the policy changes will begin, and explain what is going on. If all you are amending is the month, there shouldn't be any issues...
As far as the rate change for the family you talked about, I would sit down and have a meeting with them and get them to sign a new contract.
