We always have flies, we have pastures with goats, horses and other livestock on the side of our back fence. If you use the fly trap bags they sell at home depot or lowes they work well but place them at the very back of your yard to attract them away from the house. It keep the numbers that get into the house manageable. We had a major overrun of leaf hoppers this year, I'm assuming it's because of the mild winter we had. At dusk they would cover our windows so thickly it was hard to see out! I called a pest control company to come out and spray while we were gone on vacation for a week.
