Regulation Question

I'm looking through my state's licensing regs (thinking about it...I know, I never thought I'd sink to this either :P) and under Indoor Playspace and Programming, for each age group (infant, toddler/preschool, school age) there is a requirement for "transportation materials and equipment" to be available. What the heck fulfills that, and am I just being dense?

I would think that would fall under "gross motor activities" though...which is also under each age range.

Maybe like small cars, busses, farm equipment. Things like that maybe?

This is just a shot in the dark but the term you used was mentioned frequently while I was in college in reference to children learning developmentally and appropriately toward independence. It was often refered to as transportation from one developmental level to the next and the materials and equipment needed to meet those needs.

Like I said, I don't know if that is exactly what your regs mean but my instructor used terms like the one you mentioned quite often and that was what she was referring to. It is from the NAEYC code of developmentally appropriate practice guidelines.

It is funny wording. so you are not dense. What is it grouped with.??? if it is a list of materials like manipulatives and dramatic play the trucks and stuff is the answer.

If it is in a different area I would say ride on toys.... I would have said stroller or wagon but school age was listed also.

So...yeah...

Your state is specific!! We are just required to have at least 3 toys available for each child. So if you have 10 kids you have to have 30 toys. Kansas has just introduced a rating system and I'm seeing them start to go this way. I hope not though as we already have 75 pages of regulations!! I mean, our center has all these toys already, I just don't want more things for them to check!!
