I have a few that may be ready to potty train. My question is do any of you only train on the "big"'potty or do you start with a Childs potty? The two that I have are just over 2 yrs, however they are scared to sit on the big potty even though I use a potty seat on top of it. So do I start with the Childs potty or hold out for when they are ready to sit on the "big"'potty?

I have always heard that a small potty on the floor is actually better because kids can brace themselves to learn how to push out poop. Is there a problem why you cant just put some small potties in the bathroom and then after they get the hang of that, move to the big potty? They are annoying to clean out but it shouldnt be for too long, assuming the kids are really ready to get going with potty training. Another thing that might help is a potty seat (on the big potty) that has handles on the side to hold onto AND a step stool so little legs arent dangling. Too much freedom with the arms and legs having no place to go is scary for kids.- Flag

small potty if you have 2 training it is best to have them both sit at once. plus then you can sit on the toilet seat while you wait.
I like the frog potty at Walmart for boys, it works great. I got some smll ones that stack they take up less space . They work great for the girls but not for the boy.It:: will wait

I refuse to do the little potty on the floor and have to clean it out. I've always used the seat adapter on the big potty. Mine has handles, and I use the step stool for their feet.- Flag

Yes I do have the seat that goes on the potty with the handles and I have a step stool to assist them to get onto the potty. It wasn't working because they are scared of the potty. So now I think I will try two little
Porgies on the floor and see if that works well. If it doesn't well then we will just take a break and try again.- Flag

I have them just sit on it, even if the lid is closed and clothes are on. just get them used to it. I am sure the kids are feeding off of each other too???
Do you have any older kids that can model how to do it??- Flag

Yes I do have my own kids who are much older 5 and 7. That's a good idea. I was also worried about having to clean and sanitize. And also going from the little potty to the big potty is another transition.- Flag

the parents crack up about it and the kids love it....All of the kids here sit on the potty, some of them don't pee in it yet though.

I have the seat wiith handles that fits right on the big potty. It works very well. I also have a kid's step stool leading up to it.- Flag

I like the little potty. In my experience, kids are afraid of the big potty when they are first getting started. I disinfect the potty after every use...no big deal.- Flag

When I was in a classroom, we had short, but real toilets. So potties were never in question. And when I started family child care, my kids were all 2 mo.-2.5 years, and no one had started learning to use the toilet yet, so I had no potties. I thought they ought to just go ahead and learn how to use the big one, and had no interest in cleaning out potties. But when a few got interested at once, I quickly realized it was nice to have little potties so a few could go at once (I like the peer learning, and with 6 cycling through the tiny bathroom, it makes it quicker; also, there's only one toilet in my house, and sometimes it's occupied when someone's desperately got to go!). I also like to have a potty outside (in the shed) so I don't have to run everyone inside when someone has to go. My favorites are the Baby Bjorn tiny little one-piece potties; very easy to clean. (Also ideal for elimination communication, which I learned about later and used with my own daughter.)- Flag

I have used all three, a little potty chair, a little seat that goes on the big toilet and the regular toilet.
I will use whatever the child is most comfortable with. After all, the most important person in the toilet traing process is the child.- Flag

I don't use potty chairs anymore. I use the big toilet with a built in child seat, something similar to this...http://www.amazon.com/Mayfair-83EC-0...dp_ob_title_hi and I have had nothing but great results and happy little ones sitting on the big potty- Flag
