I was suppose to be off today. I can't remember if I put it with pay or not. But, when my husband had surgery last month, I took off 3 days, and they never blinked an eye. One parent has to work the 4th, so I offered to keep her little one. We are going to my husband's annual family reunion, but this dcg is like part of the family, so we didn't think twice about taking her. Mom's on board with it, so it was all ok.

Then, early this morning, my step-father died. We weren't close, so I'm sad, but not devastated. But, my sister was close to him, and I feel like I need to support her. So, we are making an appearance at the reunion, then after lunch, we will drive further north to spend a little time with my sister.

If I had known this was going to happen, I wouldn't have offered to keep her, but it's too late for her to make other arrangements. She was too good to me during my husband's surgery, and I won't do that to her.

I take it off but no biggie as the clients have it off as well. No pay though, I don't get paid for any days I take off.

Hope everyone has a fun safe 4th celebration!

I have it listed as an unpaid holiday, but have told my parents I would work if they needed me for extra pay, probably a dollar and hour more. Nobody needed me. I figured they wouldn't, or at most only one or two and I could take them wherever we wanted to go.

It is my summer holiday/vacation! I have been taking the 4t off since the first year I was opened.

If the 4th falls on a week day, I take that week off and if it falls on the weekend, I take the up coming week off!

My time to spend on my houseboat....relaxing in the summer sun NOT thinking about anything but my tan!

Of course, due to the horrid weather we had come through here last night.......we aren't heading out until tomorrow morning.
Wow! you OWN a houseboat?? I used to be such a fan of the "Tammy" movies and I've always wanted to take a houseboat vacation. Unfortunately, on the Mississippi they are quite expensive and you have to spend hours VERY frequently going through locks to go anywhere. :P I'd love to stow away as well!!!

I was open, but all 5 kids parents kept them home, so I get paid because they CHOSE to keep them. It's not in my handbook or contract anything about holidays, so it's their choice and I don't mind if they did decide to come.

I was lucky though, all the families kept them home for Memorial day and for the 4th so far, and no one even tried to get it free they all paid me in full without me saying a word.

paid holiday and off. If it would have landed on a tuesday or thursday I would have been off Monday and Friday paid as well.

Most parents are paid, those that are not can plan for it well in advanced time. My paid holidays are in my handbook. Very few perks and paid holidays and vacations help make me be a better provider.

My hub was paid, but still had to work---- ugh

How weird it was to have a day off in the middle of the week- refreshing I might add.

It is a paid Holiday for me. If I was open, I would have parents bring their children all day, opening time to closing time, while they both sit at home.

When you redo your policies make sure you add the following line after you list your paid days off: "If any holiday should fall on a weekend day the daycare will be closed either Friday or Monday."

I feel that the parents all get their holidays off paid and we should too!
