    Open Cups...

Does anyone use them really early? Like before a year?

My last group I transitioned at 18 months, to small china cups (espresso cups). I now have a little guy whose 8 months, and just plain won't take a bottle from me. So, while he's here, he doesn't drink much. I've tried a cup with a lid, but he doesn't seem to get it.

Has anyone had early success with open cups?

I don't do lidded cups. I used to use the Tupperware style ones around age 10-14 months and then have them transistioned to a regular 5 oz Dixie cup by 15 mos at the latest.

Now as soon as a child sits in the high chair and eats, I introduce the 5 oz Dixie cup and skip the lid all together. My youngest is 10 months right now and uses a regular un-lidded cup.

I used open cups as soon as they were sitting at the table eating with us. (Small sturdy juice glasses.) (i.e. straight from bottle to open cup. Some were still taking a bottle of milk at other times, but at meals they had water or milk in a glass.) I start by setting it out of their reach and helping them with it when they need a sip and transition to them doing it themselves whenever they seem ready.

I have parents of 4 and 5 year olds handing me their kids sippy cups!
        I'm like...
I usually have them drink out of open cups at around 12 months and usually outside if possible.
