    DCB Is So Loud

I have a 5 year old dcb who went to pre-k last year and is out for the summer.

His normal speaking voice is so darn loud. And he loves to play all of those crashing bashing superhero type games.

He's a sweetheart and I hate putting him in time out for something that isn't intentional, but he raises the volume of the room to 2000. And sometimes I just need that 2 or 3 minutes of quiet to regroup, and he needs to de-escalate.

    What would you all do?

Tootsie roll (roll you hands aroung one another)
Lollie Pop ( Stick up thumb and act like you are licking a lie pop)
    We were talking
Now we stop (Sign language for stop, straighten out right hand sideways and sharply place it pinkie side down in palm on left hand)

I teach them this and we do it alot. The we they get too loud I sign STOP!
They know it means get quiet and I do it silently.

Thats too cute! Going to definitely use that with the whole group.

This little guy, though, is not the kind who occasionally gets too loud. His normal volume is way louder than everybody else. And he's a popular person to play with, so he always has 4-5 other kids around him, who all start talking as loud as he is. Then the other kids get louder to be heard over that group...pretty soon I have 12-15 Screaming Mimi's in the same room.

I used to do that with my 1st graders, but slightly different.

They did love that. I'll need to do that with my Preschoolers.
My Preschoolers will say, "You're too loud and it's hurting my ears!" to each other. They got that from me. ::

I have a little boy exactly like that. He wears hearing aids. We started using this and now he even does the stop sign at home. happyface
