The hubby has decided since were going to be new providers that we should start off in our own home. super sad im not even going to lie. Those that currently have it in home what are your thoughts? Whats the pros and cons of it? Any suggestions that you would give for a total noob? Like set up and avoiding clutter?.We have to look for another house which I really dont mind since weve out grown my townhouse since weve been married.
If I could design a space for daycare, that would be #1!!!!
If you are looking for a house, ideally, if there is an extra large family room off the kitchen with the possibility of a seperate entrance, it would be ideal. Seperate space for daycare, but not two kitchens to clean.
Having a "formal" (even if it's not formal) livingroom and dinning room for when you're off duty and holidays is cool. I like my kid's table in the kitchen, because they typically have kid-friendly flooring, and I can get them settled for nap and then clean the lunch mess without toddlers "helping".
If a house like that doesn't show up, then 2nd choice for me would be a finished basement with bathroom, outside entrance, and at least a mini-kitchen. Even if that's a microwave, mini-fridge, and wetbar.
Pros:
-you're not shoveling snow at 2 locations (well, we are in WI)
-you can do laundry, clean the house, and start dinner during nap time
-you don't have to schlep files back and forth to do paper work on the weekend
-you can feed the kids dinner leftovers for lunch the next day
-you don't have to drag groceries to 2 locations
-If your group is small at the end of the day, you or dh can start the grill early and have a nice cookout and a cold beer as soon as the last one is out the door
-you can keep a pet, even if it's seperate from the dc kids, and know that it's not alone all day...you can snuggle at naptime
-if your husband is your helper, you can sneak off together at nap time (JUST KIDDING!!!)..I meant snuggle...
I know there's pro's to having it outside your home, but since that's not happening (for you or me), I'll stick to the silver lining!
Yes my ideal house would be the seperate entrances. i havent heard of too many basements in Oklahoma too bad to i like them. ill be looking pretty hard for something think ill give my hubby the blues with making sure its right

Doesn't the wind go sweeping down the plain there? I thought you'd have basements... you probably don't have snow much either, eh?
we get some of everything its crazy. theres a saying here " dont like the weather.....just wait five minutes itll change" !!! kansas i believe is big on basements thats theonly thing i liked aboutit when i lived there for a quick second.
I have a walk out basement but no separate entrance (unless the parents walk to the backyard which happens every now and then). Separate playroom from your living area is a must! check into your licensing requirements too! assuming you plan to be licensed.
oh yes ill be licensed im taking my classes now. and about ot look for the house, it would be ideal to have a seperate entrance some of the houses have garages converted into rooms so theres an idea there id definately have to get a door for that though.
As I understand it, in Texas you have to live in the same place you keep the kids in order to be a home day care. If you have it in a separate building, it becomes a center and the licensing requirements are much stricter. You might check with licensing to see if the same applies in Oklahoma.
