Yep, it was around 97F today. I took the kids to the local pool. We a lucky we have Lake Pyramid close by and there was no one there today. We had the whole lake to ourselves.

In Utah we are allowed an above ground pool if it is over 4 feet high and the ladder is removed during day care hours.

I have one at my home, but not the day care.

My kids are 18-10 and I have been doing this about 15 years. We had a pool when they were iddy bitty (wading pool) but then they said No more pools with childcare. We did have a pool a couple years ago when I had the summer off but it was really small and we couldn't afford anything better. Plus it didn't stay blown up real well.

Well this year is the topper-both the neighbors on one side have pools this year and my kids faces just fell when they saw them playing in them today. They started to ask and I said-No, because we have the childcare. It makes me so sad that my kids can't have what others have, in regards to things like this. No, friends over because they count in my count, no air soft wars because no gun rule, no we can't just take off and do something because of the childcare, etc.

I always wanted my kids to have fun filled memories and have those summers that are just laid back and fun. My oldest wants no children because she says "I've been around little kids way to long already", my second oldest can't really handle them being here 10.5 hours a day, my third is more motherly and isn't bothered by them and then the littlest just wants mom and gets tired of being with them all the time.

So anyway just a vent because once I saw those pools go up I just wanted to cry-. I really get tired of my home/family having to be dictated by childcare at times!
I have the same problem with the children in my day care and I do have a pool in my back yard but the state requires a licensed life guard when ever using a pool that is over 18 inches deep. So we end up taking them to a public pool once or twice a week when it is hot out. Now I can leave my grandchildren in our pool but not children who are not related and are in the center.

It's difficult because it gets extremly hot here. This week we are scheduled to have 2 days of over 100 degrees. I do have a wading pool that we fill up everyday during summer. There's an idea.
We aren't even allowed to have wading pools! Nothing that may "Pool" water is allowed-

            Regular logged out-

Rules have gotten harsh regarding pools in areas, because a daycare Center, child drowned in very little water, while tons of people were "supervising" "watching" the children swim as part of their curriculum. Imagine dropping your child off at care and not picking your child up that evening do to this. They have strict rules for reasons. Because of this one incident, everyone that had a daycare or center was punished for it. I have mixed feelings- but I lean towards safety, because I can't imagine being that parent that didn't get to pick up their child that evening. This is one example of the many many drownings per year that happen. Freak accidents. For me- I don't want that liability. This is not a diss on Centers- it just happened to be a Center.

You can't live in a glass house but you can have safety measures in place. If you own a pool, even an above ground pool- put a fence and lock.

To the OP- Your not the only one that does not have a trampoline- insurance won't cover us if we have one. Just ask emergency rooms how many kids they see because of trampolines- I know they are fun but I am just not willing to go there for my kids- I wear my bad mommy badge proud- because some day my kids will be parents and understand what they don't now. I am doing my job and I would like to think I do it well

one more thing OP- you don't need a deck and a fancy fence to have a pool- safety is first and that can be done on a budget.

Michael- love the lake pics and I would be just happy for a ride in your boat, nice family you have-

We just put in a pool. We fenced off part of our yard. I am not going to have my kids miss out any more because of the daycare. Hugs to you.

So to invest $2400 into a pool just makes me cringe. If I could just have a pool that would be wonderful but its the fencing that would kill us.

Also, there is no way I can divide my yard up into childcare/family areas. It is mainly all for childcare and then to add a pool with a deck would really make it cramped.

We did make an area for a pool when we could have them but its right in the middle of the playground area now. There is also no way to put a fence around it as it is connected to our back driveway.

Thank you though for all your suggestions! Maybe I'll try and figure out how to post pictures of our backyard and see if you guys could see a way to do it.

Also, I forgot to add in an earlier post that the people that are two down and on assistance also have a trampoline. It kills my kids to see this stuff! Then they go and put it in the front yard! I'm waiting to see how long it is before someone gets on it and gets hurt that isn't suppose to be on it.
You have no idea how this family is paying for the things they have. The grandparents may be buying them or other family members or friends giving them to them. Every time we upgraded our above ground pool, we gave the old one away, for free.
