    Insulting?

Answered a ladys ad today that didn't list hours or days needed. She needed tues-Saturday for 8-9 hours a day for 225$ monthly. Her daughter is 2. She has a rotating schedule too. I offered 20$ a day. She said that's too expensive and hang up on me.

wow. I am really starting to resent parents. As if I don't deserve a fair wage? It's so insulting. I wonder if the parents realize that not only are they being insulting, they aren't even offering a fair wage. I'm to feed, care for, interact with and teach their most prized possesion for a wage that is lower than 2$ an hour. Makes me very upset.

I'm sorry. Just let it roll off you and move on. No sense wasting time thinking about rude people. If parents are looking for dirt cheap, this isnt the place for them and I wouldnt want them here anyway. I would charge $600 or more for that schedule (the Saturdays are going to be a higher rate, if I was even willing to do them).

Good luck to them on getting good care for less than $20 a day, including a Saturday! Your rate is already $5 less than I would charge a day in my area and I would never touch Saturdays. And I charge $5 less than my best friend who also provides childcare...and she and I were almost always as full as we wished to be. I agree that you should forget about them...they are rude and obviously don't value thier child if all they are concerned about is getting the cheapest care they can find. I understand that childcare is expensive...I have had to have my children in care before and the cost makes a big dent in the family budget. But I never expected ppl to watch my children for next to nothing.

HA! There is NO way I would take that. Honestly, my rate is more than double what you offered her per day. If people don't want to pay it, that's not my problem. There are plenty that will. Money is always an issue of course, but I hate when the first question you get is, how much do you charge?

She's obviously a first timer looking for care!! She'll soon learn that she gets what she pays for and will start treating people who will do a good job with respect. 90% of the population see us as nothing more than babysitters who don't deserve a fair wage...but they can just keep on walkin'

:: I charge almost $30 and I charge $50/day on weekend days (though I will very rarley do weekends)... and how rude to just hang up on you.

There are many parents out there who want quality childcare and will pay for it without complaint... and will even thank you each day These parents can be few and far between but they make a world of difference in this career!

Stay positive - and be thankful that we can weed out some really terrible parents right off the bat by asking questions and answering theirs.

I really think its the area I live in. It's so heavily populated with military families. And from my experience as a military spouse for half a decade, army families want it cheap or a discount. And other army spouses are willing to work for nothing making it a bidding war for minimum wage gas station jobs. I've applied for 2 dozen positions at our post gas stations/stores and I called hr to clarify a job description...the lady pretty much told me to get bent because there was already over 100 applicants and she didn't have time to explain anything to me.

Gotta love living in an essentially transient area. Drives me nutso!
