Even My Own Kids Think I Don't "Work"

Gotta love the "babysitter" comments from adults who don't take our job seriously, but even my DD5 will tell people that her mom doesn't work. From her perspective I really don't. To her it looks like we play all day and have friends over. LOL

Yep, a friend of mine is a school teacher, and asks me 'how's the babysitting going?"

DD also thinks I don't work, that I stay home and play.

None of my children here (not my own) think I work. They think I spend my days playing with and teaching them for fun. :: Cuteness.

Probably because its not working in the sense of getting up and leaving for work and then coming home. I think its cute! When shes older she will remember mommy stayed home and played all day! A play at home mom!

I had a SA boy make a comment one time about how it must be nice that I don't have to work. I explained to him that I do work. I explained that taking care of kids who parents go to a job outside of their house is my job. I get paid for it. If I didn't work, I wouldn't have all these kids here and I would be doing fun things like riding my dirtbike all the time. He took it in and shook his head in agreement. It was kind of cute.
Give a little love to a child, and you get a great deal back.

My kids are 2 and 5. We talk about that this is my job and program. When I get checks I explain that DCK mom just paid me to care for her child.. When we go to the bank I state that this is the money from them. Then I get some cash back so they can see that money is coming from that check.

I do this will all 5 dck kids in the car. This gives me time to talk about buying things we need versus want.

I don't go to the ATM I just ask at the teller. I think I makes it more real.

              Hope that helps

my kids used to think that until I made them both work with me one day. They were about 8 and 10 at the time, so It was a little easier to explain. I made both of them change diapers too.....to this day, they have never said anything else about it....

I'm making my child work with me this summer. He has never been more tired in his life.

I should add, though, OP ... anyone calling a previous provider a "SITTER" makes me want to run away.

I had a boy once who said I did not need a vacation. My job was to play with him in the sand and playdough so what would I do on a vacation. His sister said she wanted my job when she grew up.

Oh no, that wouldn't fly here! My kids understand this in my job and during the day even though I'm home I'm still working so I'm not available for things I would be otherwise.

                          I AM a daycare provider and I don't think I work.

I do what I love and love what I do.

Being paid for it is just a perk.

                              ::

The only thing I hate is being called the babysitter. It makes me feel like a teenager hanging around while mom and dad go out on a date.
But I don't think I've ever had somebody tell me before that I'm not working. Although, I'm sure parents probably say it.
While it might look like we get to have fun all day long, there are those days after everyone has left that I just want to go upstairs, shut the door, and go to sleep. ::
