    Missing Arts & Crafts Time

I have a pretty set schedule and do Arts and Crafts right after breakfast. I have one girl who comes late all the time. She is full time but comes between 9 and 10am. I have found the kids do arts and crafts best right after breakfast. We paint, color, and do our letter and shape worksheets daily. We are at the table from 8:30 to 9:30am generally and then move onto sensory play, snack, storytime, and outdoor time. So since she keeps coming late should I set her up by herself to do the crafts later in the day? I really like to move as a group from activity to activity so it is not an ideal choice IMO to set her up later. I just don't want her parents to question why she does not have worksheets, coloring's or paintings coming home and she LOVES arts and crafts so she does miss it if she is late. What do you think???

Nope, I send home a schedule to the parents and if there child is late then they miss out.

I always just let my parents know what my schedule is before they change hours or before they start. That way, they know which activities their child will participate in depending on what time they are dropped off/picked up.

If it's an activity I want everyone to participate in, I just schedule it on a day and time when most of my children will be here. Otherwise, I will set aside some time for the other children who missed out.

I would just give the parents the option to drop her off in time so she doesn't miss it.

I treat it like a daycare center or school -- at a school, they aren't going to do english period all over again just because someone arrived after it. I think parents need to expect that to be the case. If they want them to participate in certain things, they know the schedule and can bring them in time for those things.

I would give the parents a copy of the schedule, and let them know dcg has been a little sad that's she's missing Arts and Crafts.

We have a little art center set up that they can use at any time. I don't think it would hurt to let her do art during sensory play time.

I would ask the parents to please bring her at the time she is scheduled for. It makes it hard to plan for the day and sets everyone off.

IF that is not an option-

I would rearrange arts and crafts, do sensory first, even if she only got to do a bit of arts and crafts, she would at least get to do some and parents can see what she is missing out on.

Thanks All...I think I will set her up later in the day if she missed Arts and Crafts since she really loves it. I am loving our set schedule now and do not want to change it. She can do the crafts during free time 3-4pm.

                    Sounds like a great solution!

I set the child up later to do it (usually during centers).
