    Most Important Things in PHB?

I have a PHB and contract that I have parents sign. The past year has been the most challenging as far as an issue DCB and DCP's which has made me rethink a few things that I need to draw more attention too.

    1) Toilet training (2 weeks without accident before undies, no exceptions)

    2) firm pick up and drop of times

    3) proper weather appropriate clothing

    4) clearer term guidelines for behaviors

I'm wondering what is a deal breaker for you all?

Not sure about anything else, but how will you know if they are 2 weeks accident free before undies if they are not wearing undies?

They would have a dry diaper.

Make sure you have an iron-clad illness policy. I just got burned pretty bad by mine and I thought it was really good. Require doctor's notes.

        Also, late fees.

Immediate termination clause at the provider's discretion

        Sibling illness clause

Holiday and vacation policy for part time and full timers

But how can they possibly toilet themselves if they are wearing diapers? Pull ups, maybe, but not diapers.

I can see requiring plastic pants or pull up over in the beginning, but accidents are part of working with 2 year olds.

When they are truly ready to toilet train, they should be accident free in whatever they wear after a period of time. It's just not sanitary to put them in undies at daycare when they are still having accidents. Obviously, it is a training process and pull ups are just glorified diapers...nothing else. If they are still having accidents, then they just aren't ready to be in only underwear at daycare.

I think that your PHB should reflect on what dealbreakers are for you. There are many providers that are really laid back and relaxed and only use a contract and then there are others that are really structured when it comes to their policies and have longer contracts and multi-page handbooks. Here's a list of examples of what you can put in your HB

                  About the FCC
                  Non-discrimination policy
                  Childcare philosopy
                  Mission Statement
                  Provider's Training

                  Enrollment
                  Waiting list process
                  Priority
                  Admission
                  Required supplies
                  Trial period

                  Hours, Services & Fees
                  Daycare hours

                  Tuition
                  Accepted forms of payment
Billing statements (if you do them)
                  Late payments
                  Holding fees
                  Returned payments
                  Late pick-up/early drop-off fees
                  Loaned items (extra clothing etc)
                  Unpaid tuition and fees

Personal property (items brought from home)
Behavior policy (what is typical behavior vs serious offenses like hitting, biting etc)
Discipline policy (what you do when a child misbehaves)
                  Damages (intentional vs accidental)

                  Termination
                  Parent withdrawal
