Hope everyone is enjoying their Memorial Day weekend!!
I had an interview last night for a single mom in the military. She was referred to me by another military family that I interviewed with recently and was going to enroll but the base daycare called them with an availability and it was more convenient to go with them.
She lives way way way way way up in the Northern part of the city (we live down in the Southern part) so we are way out of her way, but she can't find anyone else that will accommodate her hours.
She is going to be 3 months of the Swing Shift 2:30p-12:30a, 1 month Mid Shift 11:00p-8:00a, and then 4 months of the Day Shift 6:30a-4:00p. And then rotates again.
I usually don't do second shift full time but I am willing to see how it goes since she will be paying more than my normal FT rate and he will be going to bed anyhow until pick up.
Some things that make me uneasy though are:
Child is 10 months old and exclusively breast fed. Only has taken a bottle at Daycare.
Child is breast fed to sleep and she co-sleeps with him. He only sleeps in a crib/PNP at daycare or for naps.
I am worried this could be an issue getting him to sleep but at the same time, since she would pick him up at 12:30, it would be like he was going down for a "nap" anyhow and then she will be getting him to bed at home.
On the mid shift which is 11p-8a he will be just sleeping here pretty much and I will get up in the morning with him for breakfast and to get him ready for pick up. So mom comes to get him at 8am and then when does she sleep?? He will be ready to be awake all day and she will be exhausted from a night shift. That just screams hazard to me... She is going to be wore down to the max.
I have thought that maybe since that shift will be such minimal care for him during the night, that I would offer to keep him in the morning/afternoon until she gets some sleep and then she can come pick him up and nap with him later in the day if she could. WWYD in this situation? It will only be for a month at a time..
