How Are DC Rates SO Varied?

I've wondered this for quite some time. I know that even in my city, different parts of the city people ask different amounts, and it depends on education and experience as well. However, wow - there is a HUGE difference. I've seen care for $12 a day up to $75 a day for home daycare.

Anyone have any more insight?

A lot depends on the economics of the area. Wealthier areas can charge more. It also depends on demand in the area. My area has soooo many providers in a small area, no one is at capacity.

• unemployment rates in specific area
• minimum wage or standard incomes
• provider's need or what they need to financially make ends meet
• what the each state pays for child care reimbursement rates
• number of child cares in the area and whether or not the market is saturated or in need of children and spaces

I am sure there are hundreds of reasons why rates vary but those are a few off the top of my head

This is correct. I also see with Daycare.com where people spend more and were they are more internet savvy. Very interesting.
