I am hoping to get calls for a few school agers for the summer time. I charge $40 a day. Do you charge less for school age children because they are more self sufficient?

I don't take SA children.
If I did, no I would not. They are still taking up just as much space as a younger child.- Flag

I charge less to be a comparable rate to other school aged child care situations. School agers are NOT less work, even the really nice and sweet schooler agers take more attention than a child in the midst of the terrible twos and potty training at the same time. Of course, it is just my opinion. Some daycare providers love school agers...I just haven't met any IRL.
In my area, cheap school aged care is $75-90 /wk. "Summer camps", aka the YMCA with theme weeks, go do stuff, are around $130/wk. My normal rate for babies is $35/day. My school ager rate is $120/wk. High enough that no one would take me up on it, unless they have a little sibling in my care.
ETA: I would not take a school ager if they took up a regular spot that could be used by a younger child. the way our license works, is that I can have a max of 6 under 5yo, but a total of 8 kids...so 2 would have to be school agers if I wanted to be at capacity.- Flag

I am licensed so in order to accept grants I have to follow the government set fees.
For school aged children it goes like this....
1 period (before OR after school) 5.85 (58.50 biweekly)
2 periods (before & after school) 8.00 (80 biweekly)
3 periods- don't apply as no child leaves school at lunch time.
On school closures they pay full rate of 16.40 (going up .90/day in July)Last edited by dEHmom; 05-25-2012, 07:09 AM.- Flag
