What Do You Do With S/A?

I am thinking about signing a family with 2 girls, age 4 and 8. The 8 year old needs care 2 days per week in July and August, and the 4 year old will need care 2 days per week after that.

What do you do with S/A kids? What kind of activities would an 8 year old girl find fun? I have no experience with S/A and I want to see if this is something I want to pursue.

    Thanks!

    I have a group of schoolagers, 6, 6, and 10.
I LOVE having schoolagers. Especially in the summer. THere are so many fun things you can do.

Some of my kids favorites are
Board games, perler beads, computer playtime, coloring, wiki sticks, stamps and paper, stencils, legos.

I have a "prize bucket" that I fill with things from the dollar store. On rainy days we play board games, and each child gets to pick a prize from the bucket. THey get to pick in the order of who won the games first.

We do baking activities, browinies, cookies, jello. If the kids are old enough to read, I have them do storytime with the little ones.

Most of the older kids love the same activities as the little ones tho. Painting, playdough, sensory bucket, bubbles.

I will have only one S/A, so that makes it tough bc I will not have anyone else to entertain her. Do you think I can make it fun enough so she wont be bored with all of the 4 and unders? I can't really do a lot of baking with my littles- i would go insane.

If she is 11, she can do most of the baking her self with minimal supervision from you. A good idea would be to start her on a basic bread recipe and you will have enough bread for the daycare lunch that day!

I have a 10 year old, and she plays with my group just fine. I have kids that are 2,2,3,4,6,6, and then the 10 year old.

I LOVE having her home from school because she keeps the little ones completely entertained. She plays tons of imagination games with them, dress up, blocks, reads them stories, helps with crafts.

I guess it depends on the personality of the child tho. She grew up with daycare kids in her home from the age of 4, so its all she knows.

its hard if you have one child that is older, but like my own kids, thats all they know and they are pretty good with the kids. They always have someone to play with and the younger ones love when my kids are home, they always ask "when are the big kids home"

I only do school age and this is my schedgule for the summer.

              breakfast/am snack untill 8:45

Once brakfast is cleaned up we have an organized art project.

While they are working on the art I prep lunch.

Once art is finished and cleaned up we head to the park, the "big" one.

Come back just in time for lunch.

Once lunch is cleaned up and snack is preped we head out the door for a field trip.

Come back just in time for snack.

After snack we head to the "little" park.

coming home just before first pick up is schedguled.

This is a rougph schedgule and we go from one thing to the next. However, I will also allow the children to guid the day some. So if after art they all whant to color we stay home and color.
