I wonder if it's just that times have changed. I was born in the mid 60s and we spent most of our time outside -- wasn't much on TV then and we didn't have computers, cell phones and such. I do feel it is sad that -- in general -- children today don't have that connection to nature and the outside world.

sometimes i give my kids a "job" but make it fun, like we have the little tikes play house so we do a "House washing activity!" i get buckets of soapy water and dish sponges and they scrub away! They love it! Then they start to clean everything!
I also try to make obstacle courses, very simple, i put stuff around the yard, circling the perimiter like hoola hoops, a wooden beam, a crate, they have to jump in and out the hoop, climb over the crate, run! touch each tree as they keep running and then clap a friends hand or make it a nice exercise or race (if they don't break down when one looses)- Flag

its also the time of year to break out the water toys! Slip and slide, sprinklers, hoses, buckets should be a good start! I don't have a pool of any size for safety reasons but the kids are more than happy to play in the sprinkler. You could also fill up huge rubbermaid tubs and let them scoop water if you dont have a water table. Again, watch the little ones closely because babies can drown in just a few inches of water.- Flag
