    Question About Fingernails

I would usually ask our doctor about this but there must be something wrong with the clinic's phones right now. (?) Anyway, this morning the fingernails on both of my 15-month-old's ring fingers are trying to fall off. It appears as though there is another nail underneath. Obviously this isn't "normal" but have any of you guys expereinced anything like this before? I tried looking it up on the internet but couldn't find anything about having a nail on top of another nail.

This happened with all three of my kids and their big toes. The new one grew in and nothing like it has happened since.

Yeah, I'm beginning to wonder if it was just one of those things that just happen once in a while. The more I research the ichthyosis the more I'm convinced that's not what's going on here. My older daughter had a nail that came off every fall. I just wasn't really linking the two in my head because hers was ugly and didnt have another nail growing underneath. And it took months to finally fall off and heal. Not like the baby's that just happened within 24 hours. We had my older daughter's finger tested several times and they could find no sign of fungus or bacteria. They said it could be some rare genetic thing that really wasn't going to affect anything. It was annoying having to explain it every year to a new teacher since it happened in the fall. One of her teachers was convinced that if it was happening every year that someone was slamming her fingers in doors until I had the doctor write her a note. Completely understandable that this was a concern but still annoying to have to explain it all the time.

That just made me conjure up the mental image of you checking your calendar and going "It's that time of year again, gotta go slam the kid's finger in the door again"::

My daughter likes to make the joke that her finger is the reason we decided to homeschool.
