Losing Weight While Running A Daycare?? Is It Even Possible?

I just thought everyone might have some tips for me.

I worked in a center for five years, and it was so hard for me too lose weight. Between having the food served that was too high in calories for me, and not really having time to eat something else during lunch break, I really only gained.

Since having my daughter, and being a stay at home mom, (well, I first gained massive amounts but that's beside the point) I've lost 41 lbs. I'm on my second week of doing daycare, and I just don't have the TIME to really count calories, let alone journal what I'm having.

Any tips on losing weight while doing daycare? How about maintaining weight loss (I'm 9 lbs away from my goal weight)?

Congratulations on being so close to your goal!!

I usually exercise with the kids. We will use our Playskool Dance with Me video camera and dance for an hour sometimes.....great cadio!!

Otherwise, we try to take walks daily and I am guilty of directing the group to some seriously steep hills or I tend to walk a bit fast so I know I am getting some good calorie burning done!

My suggestion is to cut WAY WAY back on all the bad carbs and cut out sugar completely. You will see the results fast. Also, when your outside with the kids try doing squats and lunges. Good luck !!

I find that I have much less time to eat and do a lot of running around and that always helps. The more kids I have the more I move LOL. Try going on lots of walks (as you know kids love those!). Get a schedule similar to the center type and include a music and movement time. Stay really busy (daycare busy). I know you already are very busy with a little one of you own.
I don't know. I know it's tough right after a baby--for the first year or two losing weight kinda takes the back burner anyway.

Good luck, hope some of this was helpful!

Get down and play with the kids. Run around with them outside Choose one child and copy all of their actions for 5 minutes (running, jumping, whatever they do, ). And just eat smart. You can look at your plate and tell whether or not the food you are eating is a smart choice. If you do those things I promise you the weight will come off.

Only drink water no soda, no ice tea, etc.
Don't snack yea right. I use to never snack just because I didn't need to and only weighed 125 (use to being the operative word )

I walk in the morning with my 8am DCM arrival, the next DCK doesn't show up until 8:30.
At nap I started doing an exercise video. I started this yesterday

When the after school kids arrive I should (but don't YET) play a mean game of tag or dance. I'm going to work this in after I get used to doing the naptime video.

After all the kids leave I try to spend a good 10-20 minutes on the trampoline with my own kids. This is great because my kids love the "mom time" alone without other kids around and it's a bit of exercise for me. This only works if it's not raining or if we're not all starving for dinner.

It's all about your diet and staying active. Pick out a healthy diet to follow and then follow that up with portion control. I know you say that you don't have time to keep track of what you eat but it's a really important for you do that so you can pin-point where your areas of opportunity are.

And you must stay active. Oh and taking a walk around the block isn't going to help you even if you do it everyday unless you keep a very brisk pace and keep your heart-rate up for a good length of time (like 45min to an hour), jogging is better.

And really your goal should be to lose inches and not focus on the weight. Sometimes proplr feel discouraged when they work at eating healthy and excercise and then they stop seeing the weight loss. Don't forget that you can burn fat and slim down but gain weight by building muscle. This is good weght gain. Getting in a well-rounded workout 2-3 times a week while eating healthy will give you the best results. If you follow up a workout with at least 30 minutes of swimming it can sometimes double your efforts. If you're like me and don't have a gym membership maybe buying home workout DVDs will help you. Don't be discouraged, You've already done a GREAT JOB!!happyface

I lost about 10 lbs recently from going to water only (no other drinks at all), no fast food, no eating after 7pm. Its nothing outrageous or strenuous. I didnt even exercise more. Late night eating is what really kills me!

                  This is tricky!!

Being pregnant and doing home daycare I was always eating with the kids - not good as they are always snacking
And because they are under 2 it's all still high fat cheeses, milks, yogurt, meats
We do healthy but they say they need the extra fats to encourage brain development.

Always have cut up carrots, celery, peppers, cucumber sticks on hand so they are easy to grab and eat quickly.
Also cut up fruit ready to go.

I find if it's prepared in advanced I am more apt to reach for the healthy foods. As soon as I get them I spend the 20 mins washing and chopping and storing right away.

Also get active with your kiddos, go for daily walks, play tag, hide and seek / play like a big kid.

Good luck and congrats on your success already

I describe it as a P90X designed for women. Its a 90 day workout program that gradually increases as you go along with a nutrition guide. I found it very easy to follow. Love the guide it tells you everything!! You also get access to their website which is also a great tool.

I am not hungry like I was in other diet programs and you see results right away!!

I lost 23 pounds and at least 19 total inches off my body and I started January 9th and still losing.

Not to mention my complexion has cleared up, no IBS anymore, just because I have eliminated CRAP from my diet (caffeine, refined sugar, alcohol, & processed foods). You can still have coffee & tea

I am very pleased with my results check out the website.

is it possible? yes. is it easy? no.

I lost 30 lbs. doing Weight Watchers while running a daycare, but have also gained it all back while running a daycare. ::

I find my biggest issues now are that I snack during naptime, I have trouble drinking all my water because it means frequent bathroom trips which I never have the time for and I am just too tired to do any type of workout in the evenings.

I am getting older and it is definitely getting harder to lose weight. I recently tried going back on South Beach - did it years ago and lost a good amount of weight - but I just can't get myself to stick to that type of program for more than a few weeks. I think I'm going to try weight watchers again.

When do you have time to do the workouts??? I already get up at 5:45am and don't get to sit down till about 8-9pm most nights. My biggest issue is finding the time and energy to do any type of exercise (in addition to kid stuff).

I have to plan, usually 2 weeks at a time, what times I can workout. Most of the time its 8p-9p through the week and 7a-8a on the weekends. There are some days its during naptime. What's hard about during nap time is by the time I eat lunch, wait my 45-60 minutes after eating, do an hour or so workout, then shower I'm overlapping naptime.

As much as I would like to, I just can't get myself up at 5am to workout. It would make more sense but some nights I have kids here til midnight and this girl needs her sleep ::

I am so much more successful at this when I plan it out.
