So if a DCK has been with me since he was a yr old, and now that he 3 now and the parents want to potty train him, i personally think he isn't ready because he won't tell me if he needs to go. I have been putting him on the potty every 40 mins, but he still won't go. He pees n poops in his pull up and is in no hurry to be changed. Now the parents say he goes to the bathroom at home and is in under wear. DCM wants to send him in under wear to DC as well. what should i do?

Tell her no. He can't come in undies until he can tell you when he needs to go and has no accidents in his pull ups for two weeks. Unless you want to continue cleaning up after him! Good luck!

I dont allow the kids to wear underwear until they have gone a FULL two weeks with no accidents.

As far as being trained at home and trained at daycare...those are two completley different things. I would suggest that you read Nannyde's blog about toilet training...TONS of useful info to help you define and explain toilet training in the context of group care.

I also have a two weeks in pullups rule. I take all my potty age kids to the bathroom every two hours. If they have to go inbetween that then they need to be able to tell me. Sounds like he's not quite there yet but hopefully with some more practice at home it can transfer into the daycare environment too!

I wouldn't do it, but that's just me. I would explain that because of sanitary and licensing reasons I can't allow a child that is not completely potty trained to attend DC in underwear. I just can't risk a child having an accident on my carpet or furniture (couch) because then I'd have to have them cleaned KWIM?

There are too many distractions here at DC and children that may be "Successfull" at home tend to still have accidents here at DC because they don't want to stop playing. And I say "successfull" because taking a child to the bathroom every 15, 20, 40 minutes or whatever amount of time isn't a potty trained child. That's a potty trained adult. The adult is trained to take a child to the bathroom every [insert length of time here] and the child will get lucky every once in a while and actually go in the toilet.

In order for me to even start toilet training here at DC a child has to be successfull at telling DCP's at home that he/she needs to go potty and be mostly "dry" at home for at least 2 weeks. Only then will I even consider starting PT at DC and even then the child needs to be able to tell me that he'she needs to go potty.

Thank you AnneCordelia and MarinaVanessa, you guys are right i wasn't comfortable to begin with and now thanks to nanny's blog i can write out a letter and give it to all DCP. once again thank you all for the help.
