    Playground Vent

    Dear Lazy Parent

Yes, we are a daycare. Yes, we have brought our kids to the park. That does not mean we are available to watch YOUR kids while you read. Its not fair for your preschooler push and bully our kids, or have to limit how they play because you are allowing your barely walking infant to toddle around unattended.

    Thanks.

Oh my! How in the world did you refrain yourself from not saying anything? I would absolutely have said something...if not to the parent, then directly to the child. Wow! Some parents!

Maybe you should have went over to her when you were getting ready to leave and said "That'll be $20 please." and then held your hand out....

I have done my fair share of chatizing other people's kids!! :: If they're not doing it then I do it. I'm not mean or disrespectful but if you're out in public then I'm going to say something. I once had to shoo away 4-5 preteens from playing hockey in a toddler area of an indoor play gym. They went away pretty quickly!! Everyone around was asking me if I was a teacher because I was so assertive

My biggest problem, especially as we head into the warmer months and summer break for school-agers, is kids walking UP the slide at parks.

I see red !!!!!! Especially if a parent is sitting on a bench and just watching their kids climb up a slide in which it's only purpose is to slide DOWN.

I know the other parents get annoyed with me at the park when I always correct a child going up the slide "Slides are meant for going DOWN, not UP".

I can get a full park to an empty park in 1/2 hour

I do this too so I wouldn't worry to much about it. My line is "You go UP the stairs and DOWN the slide" ... it's not fair that their children hold up all of the other kids that want to go down the slide.

It was ridiculous.. My co-worker and I actually spoke to this child several times, and we got the "you don't tell me what to do" face. And the baby keep walking in front of the swings, standing at the mouth of the slide - our kids could barely play trying to avoid hurting her.

And these kids were absolutely filthy . Their noses where spewing green slime, their hair was dirty and matted, the older girl had on a pair of capris I thought were khaki or even camoflage....turns out they were (or used to be) pink, just filthy.

All while their mom relaxes on the bench with a book. It got so bad we left eventually .

There are several parks in my surrounding area - we visit all of them on a regular basis. I have encountered this same situation on many occasions - I simply go up to the parent and say "Could you please watch your ONE child. I already have 6 of my own that I'm obviously keeping an eye on and would rather not add another to the mix. Please be responsible." and smile.

Nine times out of ten they leave immediately from embarassment. ::
