I need your opinion on my Half finished basement/dayhome.

So I will give you a quick run down...... Please try and picture this

We moved 2 yrs ago. Basement is unfinished and wide open.

All we had was insulation and poly on the walls.

We decided to frame in walls to make a seperate room for the furnace, ect, and
    walls for a 4th bedroom.

We put up slabs of drywall on the bottom of those walls just to keep the kids out of those rooms.

So I would like to completely finish my basement so It looks, well.... finished you know?

My hubby on the other hand wants to wait until I am done childcare. Which will be in about 3 yrs.

His reason is, is that he does not want to do all of this work and have it destroyed in a year by all the kids.

We put carpet roll ends on our floor to cover the cement and It has been peed on, puked on, bleed on, snoted on, ect, ect.

My craft tables are destroyed, the drywall is colored on, and my couches had to be cleaned to get all the snot and pee off.

He does not see the point and doesnt want waste his time or hard earned money.

I am not asking you to pick sides, but what would you do?

I understand normal wear and tear, but there really shouldn't be too much damage!

Coloring on my walls would have a serious consequence and the kiddos I hope would never dream to do that! The pee, blood, poop ect well accidents happen but if you get it right away and use the right products it shouldn't stain.

You should be happy in your space and if you can afford it and it would make you enjoy doing daycare go for it! Just make sure you are supervising well and rules are set and enforced

Personally I would wait to finish it off. I would start a savings account for just that purpose. You could have enough money set aside to have it finished and furnished in 3 years. I have been saving my food checks for just that purpose. We will need to get new carpeting, flooring, furniture and re-do the woodwork. The doors are scratched and damaged and need to be replaced. I want a room that no one has peed on, vomited on, smeared snot and it is an adult room for us and our grandchildren. I don't know your situation but I am getting close to retirement in a couple of years and that is my goal. My savings is my food checks.

I am waiting for my daughter to be around 13 or 14 yrs old so when my kids are done school ect for the day she is old and responsible enough to be at home with her brother for a couple hours while we are at work.

I have rum a dayhome for 7 yrs now and im getting tired!

But I do want to be happy in the place that I work in, and the kids too.

But I dont want it destroyed with bodily stuff either.

That's why I am not buying new furniture until I am done with daycare. I am sick of snot all over my family room couch

I would wait if I were you. Nothing is worse than spending hard work and time and money only to have it ruined. It sounds like you have a rowdy bunch

I'm in a slightly different situation, but getting ready to move this week to a house with a basement. I understand not wanting to spend lots of time and money to make it really nice to have it destroyed. My plan is to use a majority of the basement for daycare, but my nice furniture is OFF LIMITS from the time we move. I'm making floor cushions, fun benches, and other child size seating. I'm going to cover the carpet in the daycare area-which is pretty ugly and not that great anyway-with play mats and rugs. My couch has been colored on twice, and the snot and boogers that end up on it makes me not want to use my own furniture. I love encouraging the kids to do art, but until they learn my couch is not an option, those children get limited access and have to stick close by me when using crayons, ect. Maybe there is a comprise you and your husband could reach where a certain area is off limits and the kids are provided with a less costly area.

we just buy secondhand and finish out cheaply for the daycare in the basement. we didnt put carpet down. its poured concrete with the foam tiles covering half the floor. finished walls are easy.....just repaint. I think you should finish it out but dont put in a whole ton of top of the line stuff
