15 Mo DCB Keeps Throwing Food On The Floor!

Yes, another post about my 15 month old dcb

I have had dcb since he was 9 months old, and he keeps throwing his food and sippy all over my floor.

How do I stop this? It seems like nothing I am saying to him or doing is working. It doesn't matter if he is at the beginning, middle, or end of his meal.

    Getting frustrated!

The second he throws something on the floor, he doesn't get it back and is done.

Only takes a couple times and they get it. I do NOT like playing that game and it will become a game if he continues to get his cup back or gets to continue throwing stuff with no consequences.

IMHO, this is all part of learning appropriate table manners.

I'll give it a shot at breakfast tomorrow!

I am a little concerned that, since he eats 2 meals a day here that he won't get enough to eat. Trusting that he will get it in a few days!

He won't get enough to eat at first but that is what will teach him not to throw food. His hunger will tell him, "Oh, I better keep this on the tray or I won't get it anymore" and he will figure it out pretty quickly.

Plus, when he throws it on the floor, he isn't getting it back anyways right? So he apparently isn't wanting to eat it anyways or why throw it on the floor?

Kids that age are tough....they eat like they are starving one day and eat like they are on a hunger strike the next. The best thing you can do is simply stay consistent with what he is offered and what the rules of the table are (as far as manners and throwing) and eventually he will start to fit in rather than you changing meal times/routines for him.

Ultimately our goal is to have the children learn to fit into the world around them not learn that the world will change for them. kwim?

Blackcat is right all the way! I have a young group too (4 kids range from 13m-22mo) and I've found this works best. Anyone over 18mos helps clean up the mess too.

I turned my back for one sec today to get something and my three decided it would be fun to dump the plate on head, throw stuff on the floor and the middle guy laughed because he was finally not in trouble but he instigated the other two. I felt defeated. Ganged up upon. Lunch was over and nap was early. Makes me feel like the bad guy, but they were going to town like it was a middle school food fight festival. It was one of those messy lunches too! I am half way through clean up- the other half will come after my down time. I have to watch my reaction, because they tend to feed off of it.

When I turned around this was my face

I had two four year olds decide yesterday to throw a piece of food back and forth between the two of them. Totally old enough to know better. Bye bye, plates.
