The Grass Isn't Greener On The Other Side After All!

Over the last two years, I have pretty much had to rid of all of my families (kept only 1), redo my PHB and start fresh again.

Over the last 6 months, every single one of the parents that I found some way to have them leave my DC, because they basically kicked dirt in my face and never followed any of my policies have all came crawing back to me at one point begging to come back.

Last night I got an email that took the cake. This family argued every single one of my polices. They never would adhere to any of them, so they were my first family I ever termed. They were practically begging me to come back and were even offering to pay more money. Of course I said no thanks....

I just wanted to share this and say OH BOy does it feel good to know that my backbone worked. Glad they got to see that the grass in not greener on the other side. AHHAHAHhappyfacehappyface

I know! Doesn't it feel good? i struggled for years with not having a backbone and then I found this forum. i got a nice swift kick in the butt too and I'm glad for it. It's nice when you have a place like this forum to go to when you need someone to pull out the obvious and smack you around with it a little KWIM? When you finally start taking back control of your daycare it feels so good doesn't it!!happyface

              Aww, thanks! lovethis

I love this place and even I need a reminder now and then so it is awesome to come here and read about the same things I struggle with too from other people's perspectives.

The one thing I remember about first starting out was about 5 years into doing child care, a provider friend (who was a great mentor) told me that I have 2 choices in this business.....
              • I can bend over backwards to make everyone else happy~ while I run myself crazy ragged and end up hating my job or
              • I can use the backbone that God gave me and make myself happy~ in turn making me LOVE my job.

I obviously choose to use my backbone and like most people find out, once you do it....others respect you for it!

I have had my fair share of parents that were angry about rules and stuff but ultimately, they were MY rules and if they weren't happy with them, why did I want them in my life?
No amount of money makes that kind of relationship worth it.

If I wanted to be treated like a teenage employee....I would work at McDonald's and not be a self-employed business owner who makes my own rules and loves every minute of it!! happyface

SO TRUE!!! Way to go for sticking to your policies and for sticking up for yourself. People need to know money isn't the ticket to everything.

I just had one of my families terminate with me because they had 2 options:

Go full time or change their arrival time from 11am to 12pm.

They decided to terminate and told me that it's because they need Saturday care during the summer (which I don't doubt.) They asked me and both of my assistants numerous times last year.

Good luck finding that in a daycare buddy. There are no daycare centers or in home daycares in this area (that I know of) that work Saturdays.

I just want my fat final check with my accrued vacation time. Suppose to get it today...haha!
