    Inspections....

I was curious as to when inspectors usually pop in. Is there a typical part of the day when they can be expected. Or can they show up an hour before closing or during nap? Just wondering?

In my state it is any time you are open. However, when first getting licensed, they asked what time of day was preferable. Some providers would find early morning, or nap time better. I prefer nap time actually. My inspector is very quiet and it all goes much quicker when the kids are asleep. However, they can come at any time.

I'm in MI and just had a surprise inspection yesterday. She showed up at about 2.

My inspector ALWAYS came during nap. I live on the farthest side of the county, and it is quite the drive from his office. That is pretty much the only time of day he could almost guarantee not having to make a second trip out because I was at the park or driving to pick up someone after practice. It was a full inspection, too...smoke detectors, CO detectors, everything. My foster son's caseworker does the same thing, too. It would waste a couple hours of her day to come all the way out for nothing.

How long was it untill you had your first random inspection after getting licensed. I got licensed in august so I am approaching the end of my first year this august. Just wondering when she will be showing up. Very nervous, but I'm just that way about stuff.

Oh and I can't figure out how to set my smoke alarm off for our fire drills..all It does is beep when I check it instead off fully going off. I don't know if that will pass for the fire drill part.

my experience with california is that they come out about every 3-5 yrs depending on how busy your county is.

No set time, just random times. the first time I had one years ago, we were not home. they had to come out 3 times before we were finally here.

it turned from an unexpected visit to expected, because they had to call and ask if I was still doing child care and if so when would I be home.

It was long, but went over well. I am due for another one.

Also, they are conducted anytime anyone files a complaint.

In my experience my licensor usually will come around 8:30 or 9 anywhere until about 10 so that she is gone by nap time, or she will come right after nap time around 3:00. IF she isn't here by 3:30/4 I usually don't expect her because their office closes I believe at 5 so I figure she would be working a lot more if she came after 4. She is usually here a good 2 hours. I am inspected yearly and she usually comes the tenth month of your year. I guess it is different everywhere but my licensor is great. Even though she is super nice she still makes me so nervous.
