    Enough With The Dang Running

Geeezzz. I used to take them under the arms and make them sit when they started to run.

    It doesnt work anymore.

So I put my tables in the middle of the room to discourage running, And now they all run in circles around the tables.

Maybe I should just let them run and when they hurt themselves, oh well.

Then tell the parents that little johnny chose not to listen to me today.

    Im so frustrated.

I am soooo with you!! I have a 3 yr old who NEVER walks. Today he ran straight into my patio door...turned and ran back into the room. Slipped on a piece of paper on the floor, feet went out from under him, fell backwards, hit his head on the corner of my hard rock maple play kitchen.

He just got back after mom took him in for 3 stitches....RAN right in the door. Some kids just never learn.

I have to say the running in my daycare stopped when I rearranged my room.

My room is small and last summer I posted about rearranging things - I went from having everything against walls and a big open middle to lots of smaller areas throughout the room (I've posted pics here before) and it really worked to cut the running out competely. I am still not crazy about the space, but whatever I do I'm going to make sure I don't go back to big open areas for running!

I say SIT and everyone stops and sits like dogs.... funny thing is dgs does not stop and was heading for the road and I said SIT and he did. I do not over abuse for him but it works.

I do not know why it works with this group but it does.
            It:: will wait

I have mine stop and sit, too, but with a couple.of.them it doesn't work and just kicks off bunch of crying. My room is so small I really can't arrange it any other why without it being too cramped.

I have a boy who runs non stop. The problem is that he runs and jumps to slide, or he will run and smack right into someone else (including the little ones), or he will run into something or fall and hurt himself. He doesn't look where he is going, he is so reckless! A couple of the others run on occasion, but they aren't wild like he is!

I feel better knowing I'm not the only one who makes the kids sit. It bothers me when one starts to run, then they all think they can. I say "Find a toy and SIT down to play" and they look at me like I have 3 heads and horns on each.

                    Thats what I say too!

And they all look at like me like I just said something fowl.

                    GASP. She said something sternly.

I say the exact same thing, and my husband once mentioned that I say it ALL the time. Haha. Well when they are wondering around in a circle or running from the front dooor through the living room, that stops their brain. I do have one girl though who I think moves and moves and moves because it stimulates her. When she is asked to sit she is often discovered staring into space.
