    Paid Sick Days

I'm redoing my contract and I'm interested in hearing from home providers that work alone.
The past two years I have been lucky to not have to close due to family illness, but I need the option to do so. Does your contract say that unplanned sick days are paid, or not paid?

All my days off are unpaid so this does include sick days.

I have paid vacation days, and a few sick days. I added the sick days this yr. after 2 daycare children, brought in sicknesses and got my entire family sick twice. I had to close without pay, or take a vac. day, so that is when I added 2 personal days.

UGh, that must have made you furious! I never thought about that, which is very likely how I, or my family, would get sick in the first place!!!

I do not take paid sick days, I have paid holidays and paid vacation (1 week) but that is it. I've actually never had to close for my own illness and its been almost 11 years.

I've had to take way to much time off this year to sickness but I'm picking up everything the childcare is bringing in. I don't know how to stress this to parents that I wouldn't be getting sick if the children weren't. Two weekends ago 4 of the children came down with the flu, two members of my family came down with it before me and then I got it. UUUHHHH I was so mad because now I have had parents saying they are out of sick time because they have no back up care and are trying to put it in my lap. Oh, no, its in the contract for you to have back up care.

I really don't like getting sick! Its not fun and I lose out on a ton of money, trying to be nice to the parents because I figure they are having to pay someone else to watch their kids. Then I find out they are using their time so they run out of time and become mad at me-

The only reason I had to close, my 3 yr. old had influenza A
then the next time, last yr. she got a high fever from a little boy here. It ****ed!!! When you have small children, you can't possibly stay open , or keep them down in their bedroom and not allow them to come out of their room at all for an entire day. There is no way!! Plus having to be with them, when they are vomiting or need to be cuddled, crying, etc....
