    Friday Night on Nightline

Did anyone see the article on Nightline Friday night about kindegarten. It was pretty interesting and focusing on parents this time that are going over the top to have thier children admitted into a prestige school in NY I believe.

These parents are paying OUTRAGEOUS amounts of money for tutors for their 3-4 year olds so they will be prepared to take the test to get into this school. So it was the other extreme from the story of kids being "Red Shirted" for kindergarten.

When will these kids get to be kids?

I don't watch Nightline ever since Ted Koppel left

It sounds like what Japan is doing with their kindergarteners. They are so worried about their children not getting ahead in an oversaturated workforce.

I actually met a mom that told me she was in a hurry to potty train her (just turned two year old) so that he can go to "school" I'm like what ever happened to letting toddlers be toddlers? He can hardly put half a sentence together.

I think thats why alot of kids are dropping out of school, are killing kids at school, killing themselves...they are so pressured with being the best that it all comes tumbling down.

And people are putting themselves into major debt to pay for private preschool and kindergarten. I think it's crazy. I'm a firm believer in the importance of early education, but I wouldn't take out a 20,000 loan to put my daughter into a preschool. It's insane.
