    Preschool During Nap Time?

I have a new kid who leaves to go to the preschool/speech from 12:45-3:45. Why would you make those hours for a program with 3 and 4 year olds?? Is this not universal nap time?

This kid naps religiously for 2 hours on Mon/Wed/Fri and he has to stay awake Tue/Thur for school. He's falling asleep when the bus comes and I have to keep him busy to make sure it doesn't happen. When he gets of the bus, he's fallen asleep on the 10 minute ride home. Poor guy! He goes right home after and I think he may take a little nap there, but is there anything else I should do? He's 3.5 so I think the morning nap is too soon for him. *Sigh* I think he's just going to have to **** it up on school days. Curious if anyone else has this situation?

I might put him down at 11:00. At least he'd get a little rest in before going to Preschool.

Only problem is we're usually here at 11. We are at the park from 10:30-11:30. I would say we could do the backyard on those days so he could come inside and sleep but I can only imagine telling him he had to sleep while his friends played.

They go then because the services are for 3 and 4 yr olds there are only so many hours in the day So unfortunatly some children need to have services then. Hopefully they get plenty of rest at night.

The schools would have to have 2x the staff but yet they would all have to be p/t to serve all the children needing services in just the morning.

These are teachers and therapists that often have advanced degrees and deserve f/t benifits

Not bashing the teachers or services...just the time selection. 3-5 would work better::

I have advanced degrees in Education as well and I worked in the school system. I know the hard work they do every day. Just wish it could be done at a better time.

We have several preschool programs available here and the time options are 8:30-12:00 and 1:00-4:30.

I don't find the 12:45 time odd myself as most my 3-4 yr olds only nap for an hour and are getting up by then so here that would work fine.

I guess like you said, he is just going to have to learn to deal with it and if he has trouble with it, his parents will need to find other options for him.

but when????? they work the school hours here. So if they were there until 5 the morning kids would not start until 10

I do know here if a child just can't do it then they find a better time. Luck of the draw I guess Though here they try to do the 4's in the afternoon.

                  I agree with the OP.

I couldn't imagine having to send any of my 4 year olds anywhere at a quarter to one. They'd cry.

The weather has been gorgeous here lately, and we've been staying out 20 or 30 minutes later. I have to scrape half of them up from the lunch table.

This particular group I have needs a ton of sleep. One day last week I let them have it, because I wanted to see how long they'd sleep. At a quarter to FIVE, I had to call it quits. They had gone down at one. Im considering pushing nap up to 12, because two hours is simply not enough for them, but it would cut our morning off at the knees

We have AM and PM preschool here too. Funny thing is the parent always pick the wrong class! the ones who still need a nap always end up in the afternoon class and the ones who do well without the nap always end up in the moring class!!
