YES! I was thinking this exact same thing! My DD lost a Volcom sweatshirt at school this year; and I can tell you this... we bought it from JCP and it DID NOT cost $55!!! I think it was about $25-$30. Anyway, I would never even think of making the school pay for it, even though it was brand new when she lost it. I pinned it on my daughter, who knew better than to leave her sweatshirt at school. From then on, I paid more attention to what she wore to school and brought home that day... if she didn't bring home her sweatshirt she had to do chores to cover the cost of a new one.

I do like this idea, but where can I get them made? I had to make my other shirts that I have for hte DCK...
LOL, about the orange. I intentionally bought orange & bright green swimwear last summer for my 2 little ones....they are little guys with too much energy, and a tendency towards bad ideas. I also got my littlest one bright red boots for winter for the same reason...I LOVE being able to spot him in a fraction of a second, even out the corner of my eye.

Back to the hoodie issue...I wouldn't replace it. I tell parents to only bring things here that they are willing to get ripped, stained, or lost. You looked after hours...that is more than I would have done. For winter, I provide mitten clips for the parents to use so we don't have lost mittens...they all thought theirs kids looked so stupid...until they bought the second or third pair of mittens by Dec. Yup, even my super fashionista mom put her 2nd grader with mitten clips that year. LOL

I just got off the phone with the DCM... I told her that it clearly states in the PHB that kids clothes could get ruined while here. It does not state anyting about being lost, but really whats the difference?

I told her that it was in their best interest to send DCK in clothing that would not be an issue if they got lost or torn and etc.

I said that I would be more than happy to replace it with one that could be kept here, but I would not pay her $55.00 for a jacket that she gave a 3 year old. I don't even spend that much on my own Teens. Ok well I give them $400.00 and they buy with it what they want. But I shop at TJMAX and Ross to get those name brands cheap.

She was upset. SO I went on to say well if I have to pay for all of the DCKs clothing that gets lost here, then I need to do one of two things. Increase my rates drastically, or start charging the parents for all of the things that the kids ruin in my house on a daily basis. LIke the carpet, toys, furniture and etc. so that I can afford to pay for $55.00 hoodies..

She said thank you for offering to buy him another hoodie, but he has others he can wear. OMG

        She didnt say anything else.

Funny that when you put the DCM in your shoes then her perspective completely changes ::. I do think that it was great that you talked to her about it after thinking it through and I think that your example was great. Most people don't think about the circumstances when the shoe is on the other foot and they just need to have it pointed out. happyface

It's pretty hard to expect a 3/4 yo to keep track of their clothing.

I ask the parents up front NOT to bring anything they don't want lost or destroyed. Please send the cheap stuff to daycare.

I would not replace an expensive jacket.
