I work for a family that owns their own business. (Nail salon.)
Their child comes to me afternoons only.
Well, I've just been notified that I am losing the girl that comes opposite their child.
I asked all of you if I should term the afternoon boy or offer full time or start advertising for 1 full time kid to fill the spot. Majority ruled that I offer the spot to the part time family. So I did just that today.
It DID NOT go over so well. I told them that I was making changes and not offering part time care anymore. What that means to them is that rather than dropping off between 11am and 1230pm, they now have to drop off at 9am each day and based on their departure time would determine their rate.
Right now DCB comes an average of 27 hours per week. (Which technically is my full time but because I had another girl coming opposite hours, I took him on and charge him according to the hours he's here.)
Under the new rate, if DCD picks up DCB at 3pm each day, their rate WILL NOT change. Same number of hours, just a different part of the day.
If DCD wants to keep the 5pm departure time, they pay more. More hours = more pay.
DCD said went rounds saying,
"When gas prices were 97 cents a gallon, we got more business." (You don't say!
)
"I raise my rates customers go somewhere where it's cheaper." (Is that so?!
)
"I might just quit my job." (Are you kidding me right now?! Because yes, that would solve EVERYTHING!
)
This isn't a charity. It's daycare. He is the one that chose to make a baby. With a baby comes MONEY! And lots of it!
I just had to sit back and repeat, "DUHHHHHHH" in my head for about a half hour.
I'm still not sure what he was trying to get through to me but it's a "changing of the seasons". Daycare today doesn't cost what it did when gas was 97 cents a gallon.
Now if he owned a gas station and gave me gas for 97 cents a gallon, I'd make sure his daycare bill was CHEAP!!!!
