This post keeps hitting a nerve for me today. I can. not. believe. that someone would be so horrid. I feel like some parents expect us to be super humans. We are people too. We require breaks and down time. 99% of the time we work through when we are sick. Like the 50 hours a week, 51 weeks out of the year your kid is here isn't enough, you have to come AFTER you know I closed due to the flu!?! Forget about the fact that the mom was awful for even wanting her child around someone with the flu. Talk about a terrible mother!
Do the parents even know what we go through as providers when we have to call off for a day. It is the worst feeling in the world and so hard to get the nerve to even send out that "I'm closed" text.
I am very kind and polite and people take advantage of that. But if I called off sick and someone did that to me, AND I knew they were going to be leaving in a month anyway, I think I would have just said, "ARE YOU KIDDING ME," and shut the door.
I can't believe they knocked on your window! I would have said something like "ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!???" and then told them to hold on a minute, gone and gotten their kids stuff ( I have the parents provide a change of clothes that stays here), gone back to the door, handed them their kid's stuff and told them to NEVER come back to my daycare!
After all the yrs of providing daycare, nothing surprises me anymore with anything. I have never heard of this one though!! Just when you think you have seen, heard, if all, something new comes up!! WOW!!!!!
[QUOTE=Zoe;219010]So have you talked to dcm about what happened yesterday?[/
DCG doesn't come on Fridays, so I didn't have to see mom this morning. I did, however, write a very nice, stern letter to her reminding her of her drop-off time, which she was early for, regardless of me being sick or not. I also added in the letter that her behavior was very inappropriate and that any further instances on her part will result in immediate termination. It's in her folder for next week.
On the happier side...I had one of my daycare families stop by with a cute little care package, with get-well cards, ginger ale, crackers and chocolate for when I was better!! happyface
Don't you LOVE parents like that?
Shoulda thrown up on her shoes!
I have to admit that I have been pretty lucky with my families. I try to accept children based on the interaction of the child/parents and I together. In any case, I have this one family. Dad is great, the mom on the other hand seemed to do a complete 180 on me.
I have had bad ear issues for years, getting really bad this winter. Many infections and constant pain later my specialist said it was time for surgery. I gave 2 weeks notice and only took off 1 afternoon as I thought this family would give me a hard time about it. The mother actually sighed after I told her about my surgery and the afternoon off that I would need on the Friday. She asked if I couldn't cancel my surgery because she had taken too many days to go to the spa that month and was planning on going to the gym that afternoon.
It caught me a little off guard, I was hurt. But repeated, no, this is necessary, and I'll see you on the Monday.
I don't know how some people can be so self centred.

Good call with the letter.
Love that you got such a sweet little care package. Love families that care!
inconsiderate, but I got one to top you too. In june my dd is graduating grade 8, so I was going to take the day off because I need to bring her to a hair and nail appointment, well dcm already said she can't take it off, so now I will have to drag her kid with me all day. The other dcm heard this convo, and almost ripped into her.
Country mom, you do not have to take that kid with you! You just need to tell her NO! I am taking the day off as planned you need to find back up care. Don't ruin your day.
