    Inconsiderate Parents!

I woke up this morning with the always very lovely flu bug! All of my parents, except for one family, prefer to be notified of changes by text message, which is fine with me, especially when I can't get away from the bathroom long enough to actually have a phone conversation. I sent messages out to all my families, and my other family, I called them. This was at 6:10 this morning and their daughter isn't scheduled to come until 8, so they had plenty of notice. I received no answer on the home phone, so I left a message. Same with mom's cell phone and dad's cell phone. I figured I had all my bases covered at that point and went back to bed.
7:30 rolls around and there is a knock on my door. I tried ignoring it, but the knocking got more and more persistent. Then there was a knock on my bedroom window! My bedroom window is right next to the front door, but I have never had anyone knock on my window.
So, I get up, ratty, messy hair, slightly smeared make-up that didn't all come off the night before, whole-y pajamas, and low and behold, it's the mom that I called that morning! I opened the door and she said "Wow, you don't look very good" No duh, I've got the flu. I told her that I was sick and daycare was closed and that I had called to leave three messages that morning, Her response? "Yeah, we got your messages, but didn't think it was going to be that big of a deal for you to watch just one kid." This same mom sent her child to me last week when mom was sick...and now mom wants me to watch her while I'm sick? I was as calm as I could be and told her that I would not be watching any children and I would see them at their regular time next week. I shut the door before she could answer!! Ugh, so frustrating!!

inconsiderate, but I got one to top you too. In june my dd is graduating grade 8, so I was going to take the day off because I need to bring her to a hair and nail appointment, well dcm already said she can't take it off, so now I will have to drag her kid with me all day. The other dcm heard this convo, and almost ripped into her.

I really wouldn't want to work with that family any longer. I wouldn't have even answered the door, though.

I wouldn't have answered either, but I figured she wouldn't go away if I didn't and she was really disrupting my sleep. Plus, it was nice to shut the door on her

Wow!!! I would have had a really hard time biting my tongue and not saying something I would regret later! She knocked on your door after already getting the message that you be closed? Then she proceeded to knock on your bedroom window? What is wrong with people. I would be sending this dcm a stern letter of warning:

                    Dear Dcm,

On Thursday April 12th I contacted you numerous times via telephone at approximately 6:10am and left 3 messages on your answering machine that I was unable to provide care to your child as I had come down with the flu. Please keep in mind that being alert is so very important in my job; when you are dealing with little individuals all it takes is a couple seconds for an accident to take place. For this reason when I am feeling under the weather and am not able to give the children my full attention and energy I will close the daycare. You will be contacted in the same form as you were contacted this morning if this were to ever occur in the future.

On Thursday April 12th after receiving the 3 messages I left on your answering machine you proceeded to arrive at the daycare and knock on the daycare door several times. When I did not answer the daycare door you proceeded to knock on my bedroom window, at which point I pulled myself out of bed to find out what was going on. Please be aware that this behaviour is not acceptable, you were well aware that I was closed that day as you honestly admitted yourself. Please also be aware that this behaviour will not be tolerated and if such behaviour repeats itself in the future your contract will be immediately terminated.

                    Sincerely,
                    Your provider.

I can tell you that I just can't begin to tell you how upset I'd be not to mention how upset I am for you!!

Your my hero though for having the courage to stick up for your self and shut the door in that parents face for even considering you where available to watch her child even though your sick...she even acknowledged you LOOKED ill. What is wrong with this parent?!! She understands needing care when she is ill but not the other way around?

nothing that parents do ever surprises me. My own son is scheduled to have a surgery in June. As soon as I found out I let All my parents know in writing. Some are so nice about it and some give me so much crap! The surgery is only for one day and its a Friday!! For his evalution I closed the afternoon and still let them all know. They were all worried if they would have to pay me for the whole day (which they did not have to) or if I was going to do this all the time (I have closed twice in 10 years)!! Oh goodness, people today!!!

I can't believe they knocked on your window! I would have said something like "ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!???" and then told them to hold on a minute, gone and gotten their kids stuff ( I have the parents provide a change of clothes that stays here), gone back to the door, handed them their kid's stuff and told them to NEVER come back to my daycare!

Notonly all this, but wasn't she supposed to show up at 8am? It said that she showed up at 7:30am, so she was early to top it off?!?!
